Pokémon Online

Have a project in the works but not much media? How about an idea you are turning into a project? Maybe a game design document you want to start with. This is the place.

Yeah POL isn't and never has done too well performance wise. And like you said a lot of the features just aren't finished or in a good way.

My game has had quite a few updates since last time and I'll post them all soon :D

Wow, nice!

Hmm...Pokecenters? Player organization, such as guilds or whatever you would call them in a Pokemon game? Pokedex? A screen where players can search other players to see what Pokemon they have, or which ones they have seen? Triggered evolutions? Triggered event Pokemon spawns (like the honey you had to put on a tree and wait 24 hours to get a rare Pokemon to spawn)? Rare Pokemon with difficult to predict spawn events and timers could really make the game fun and addictive. I remember in Final Fantasy XI there were entire sub-communities that just hunted after extremely rare boss spawns (aka "Huge Notorious Monsters").

Whilst those are great suggestions, most of them are content ideas, not really needed things. I remember I need to code a bank system, and I will probably do a guild system called either crews or gangs, will probably do a pokedeex too.

The rest will more than likely be added when I am making the actual game (like maps, spawn rates etc)

Are you accurately using damage calculations, IE:

Code: Select all

((((((Level × 2 ÷ 5) + 2) × BasePower × [Sp]Atk ÷ 50) ÷ [Sp]Def) × Mod1) + 2) × CH × Mod2 × R ÷ 100) × STAB × Type1 × Type2 × Mod3)
See http://www.smogon.com/dp/articles/damage_formula article for more info on that.

Smogon is an awesome resource for poke stuff. Also is your EV/IV system in place? Hidden power types? Weather effect moves (Hail, Sandstorm etc)?
Abilities? Held items?

Just some suggestions! :D

If you get this up and running you can count me in. I'll be the guy trolling for special event poke's :P

Also, do you plan on adding the Black & White pokemon when it comes out? It's pretty close to release in Japan, and I'm sure you can grab all their stats a few days later off of http://serebii.net/ EDIT: Here's some pictures of all the confirmed black & white pokemon: http://serebii.net/blackwhite/pokemon.shtml

Anyway, kudos on the amazing job so far! Best of luck!

It uses a different formula at the moment, but I plan on editing it a bit more. And most of those things aren't added and I'm not sure if they will since I want my own twist to the game and things will need to be a bit different like for 4v4 battles ;) Some monsters can learn Cover and places barriers and heal other monsters. This adds a whole new level to battle strategy :D

Ahh, I guess I didn't understand where you were in the project, and what the path is. Regardless, looking really good!
