And having read the posts. What do module writers think about things?
Some considerations:
We definitely want people to participate in the engine. Questions:
1) Will you continue to participate in a module writer situation?
2) How do you think licensing should be handled?
3) How do you think payments should be handled?
4) What can we do to get you more involved?
I was thinking the other day of what the world would look like if NWE was 'the' game engine. How would we support those who helped the engine get better by writing 'stuff' people used. NWEPLAY or NWESTORE, etc.
I intend on treating this all professionally. I want a core of professionals around this project.
btw, thank you!
Greg

Re: Module Writers
1. Like I have stated before I have been trying to get out of games. With that being said I like programming even if it is a module for a game engine. I dabble in NWE along with a few other engines here and there. To answer the first portion of your post, I don't think. I like to come here and see what people like/want and if I can develop it or have the time, I will.
2. For licensing I think it's alright how it is. But for a monetary standpoint, have a module licensed to a license will be much better but I'm not greedy.
3. PayPal upon request is fine. I have yet to cash out and I don't currently know anything about how Alain handle(s/d) or you will/do handle it. I have been working with some PayPal stuff for a site and find that Mass Pay does save some money on the payouts. It's a flat 2% fee with a max of $1 for an individual payment to a person.
4. There is really nothing you can actually do to make anyone create a module. Maybe if you did some marketing, people that solely create modules much like myself may see a demand. I know Alain did a promo of like $20 or so off at one time and from what I remember it had a pretty decent turnout. Or maybe you can offer like a referral code to developers/engine owners to pass out that will knock a few bucks off the price. When people see the term sale or any money knocked off something they tend to buy because they are getting a deal.

Re: Module Writers
Do you think a reseller agreement might be interesting? Like you license the code base and create your own game system. We get a cut at the beginning but you make what you make for yourself. Like we create the engine, get our share. Then you make a space opera and sell it for a larger amount to people with all your add ons. Like we are Word and you make Gone With The Wind?

Re: Module Writers
I wouldn't do a reseller program. I dont trust a lot of people and I am afraid some people will try and sell it the way it is or with other peoples paid modules
Re: Module Writers
And the same might be said about selling the source code, right?
I think you worry about who uses your code and not who steals it?

Re: Module Writers
I am mainly talking about the engine itself. Some people may try and sell the engine to someone who doesnt really know the engine and say they have reseller rights and not change a thing. I am used to my modules going around and around so its nothing new to me at all.
For example:
I can have a reseller license and find someone interested in the engine and sell it to them for $200 whereas the original cost was $100.
I have not changed any code or added any of my own custom scripts to it and say that I did.
Now I just scammed the hell out of 2 people and I am just sitting here selling your code for double and suckers just keep buying it.

Re: Module Writers
I was planning to build a custom Template game and sell it. Every time i sell the same Template game to another person, i would purchase another engine key license from NWE.
Then transfer the license to the buyer.
Is this Illegal?
