Gang-related Browser Game

Post by alexrules01 »

After gaining some knowledge from Hall's tutorial videos, I came up with the great idea ( ) of making a game similar to games like Grand Theft Auto or Saints Row, but just in a browser.
Now I know there are many games similar to this, but I am hoping to make it different than the rest, where all aspects are much more detailed.
I'm not sure what all of these games offer, but I hope to offer a lot more!

Please give some feedback, including should I even attempt it, or should I try to create another game. Also, any features that you would like to see in this type of game please post them and I will hopefully be able to add them somehow :)

AS YOU CAN SEE I HAVE NOT THOUGHT OF A NAME OF THE CITY OR THE GAME YET. IF ANYONE HAS A GOOD NAME FOR THE SITE/CITY (They may be the same) PLEASE POST-THANKS!

I have added each gang that will be featured plus a short history of each. If anyone feels the story is weird or the names are iffy, just leave a post :)

Heres a brief over-view of the story

Story:

Once the dust settled from the war that took place throughout the Homisidal Kingz, the city of __________ went through a phase where the only way of earning cash was to have had a good job before the war, or perform different crimes. The near diminish of the Kingz saw new gang leaders pile into the city, some failing their first week on the job, others killed during a turf battle and finally 6 leaders prevailing, forming the gangs that control the city. They are all against each other in a contest for supremacy. Each day, more and more people are resorting to criminal acts to feed the family and keep a roof over their heads weekly.
You decide that your weekly income isn’t enough to get everything you want, while buying the necessities. You decide to give up your job, sell your house and seek moving into one of the 6 gangs that inhabit ____________.
To move up in the world, you must earn respect from your fellow gang members by doing certain missions for them. For quick cash, you can perform different crimes to earn a quick buck, which may not always turn out well for you, or get yourself a part-time job, so it still gives you time to help your gang.
And rule Number 1 is to- SURVIVE!

Gangs:

Homisidal Kingz

The Homisidal Kingz where the first gang of __________. They were the only gang for a long time and ruled __________. This changed 10 years ago, when Ezekiel Hummbleton was assassinated by a vigilante, who was never found by police, but presumed dead after a day. Ezekiel had four of his elite and most trustworthy members in charge of different areas of the city. All four men, Johnny B. Al, Chavarría “Chava” Esquivel, Dolcelino Ferri and Tiriaq Wright felt they should be the new leader of the Homisidal Kingz. This led to the gang collapsing in on itself and eventually a war ensued between the four men and their followers. Tiriaq Wright was killed by Johnny B. Al after they met to form an alliance in a secret place. Dolcelino Ferri left back to Italy, as he felt their were more opportunities in Italy to become the top dog. This left Johnny B. Al and Chavarría Esquivel. Chava saw that the more they fight, the worse it will be in the long run and gave complete control of Homisidal Kingz to Johnny. The Homisidal Kingz were in ruins. Most of the business they ran were either sold or damaged, many members either left or died and all the resources were scarce. This inter-gang war gained much media attention, and men all around found it was the perfect opportunity to move to __________ and attempt to take control. Johnny couldn’t keep a grip on the whole city, so he consolidated, and focused his gang in the Commercial district, where he could build the Homisidal Kingz back up to the most feared gang in _________.

DowSow Loco’s

DowSow Loco’s (or Down South Loco’s, which is what the name means) was started immediately after Chavarría “Chava” Esquivel left The Homisidal Kingz. Chava convinced most of his followers from the Homisidal Kingz to join him in making a new gang, situated in the Downtown area. Chava then called in recruitments from all over America to help him establish DowSow Loco’s. With family giving financial support, and sending over ‘troops’, DowSow Loco’s have become a feared gang and are forever increasing.

3rd Street Militia

While the Homisidal Kingz war raged on, the civilians of _________ were scared and in panic. Many were afraid to live in their homes, but never left so there house wasn’t occupied by gang members. Many of the families in the suburbs had army dads, who left the war and returned to protect their families and try to restore order in _________. With the army not accepting any of them back due to leaving, and all of them wishing to restore peace, they formed an alliance to run all gang activity out of _________. When the federal government got word of this, they put a stop to their vigilante vendetta. With all of them sent to jail for conspiracy, and none of the public wishing to over-turn the verdict, Tyrone Jae, an ex-marine, assembled his troops once they were all out of prison and decided if they can’t take the gangs out for the safety of the public, they will form their own gang and make a living performing criminal activities, as no businesses would hire ex-army turned ex-jailbird men. Tyrone named the gang, as he, along with many friends lived on ‘Third Street’. They started to recruit more members who had lived their whole lives as rebels, to teach them the way of being a criminal. 3rd Street Militia isn’t as big as the other five gangs, but make up for it in the skill of all army-trained troops.

East Side Souljas

Ali Hoitt led one of the biggest gangs in Los Angeles, but many smaller gangs kept pushing for more turf against the East Side Souljas. With Ali being pressured for just about anything they could think of and his shipping business in decline, he felt it was time to get out of L.A. and find a new place to rejuvenate the East Side Souljas and try to once again lead a dominant faction. Ali moved to __________ and started to assemble a new gang, a long with many that followed him. Ali set up a new shipping business to gain funds for the gang, and scared out the remaining Homisidal Kingz that inhabited the industrial area.

Ghetto Rebels

The aftermath of the Homisidal King’z war dramatically lowered house prices, as no-one wanted to live in _________ after what was heard and seen. This meant poor families came to live, and the ghetto was started. Raphael Pelzel, once a respected business man, was forced to move to the ghetto as his business hit real tough times, and to pay all the debt he owed, it left him with no business, no house and only a few thousand dollars, just enough to buy a house in the ghetto and survive. Raphael became friendly with his neighbours, then everyone on the street and soon many people around the ghetto. He was talking with a few of his closest friends that he had made, and they told him how easy it was to rob houses and intimidate people while in numbers. They all wanted to start a gang, but they were always unorganised and never had the resources to take on ‘the man’. They appointed Raphael in charge as he had the skills to manage a team, gain resources and make good decisions. After a few weeks, some criminal acts and some local media attention, the Ghetto Rebels (was the nickname given to these men before the gang started, by the police) was formed.

H! Rollerz

The High Class district always separated themselves from the rest of ___________. They always felt that they should own the city, but knew they didn’t have enough power to take out the Homisidal Kingz, even with the extensive range of weapons many of them had acquired to protect themselves, if ever the Kingz ever tried a full scale attack on their houses. With all the corrupt business men, lawyers and cops living in the High Class District, Shad Husaini, once a gang member in New York, now a record dealer with many ‘body guards’ as he called them, thought once the war of the Homisidal Kingz was over, it would be the best time for the Higher Class of __________ to take control. The H! Rollerz weren’t able to take complete control, but were able to recruit many gang members and are forced to be reckoned with.

i like this. I have noticed a lot of games "going back" or using guilds and factions more. I don't have any ideas at the moment but if I think of some I will post em.

Thanks Halls

What would REALLY help would be a video showing us how the weapons can be used in a battle *Hintity Hint Hint*

No im kidding, take your time. I'm using the code you have provided and am learning heaps by decoding and changing variables etc. to suit my database and other strings. And I'm learning that the slightest error can cause the biggest annoyance! :P

While I have not played one of the millions of PHP mob/gang games directly, I do mostly know what they offer. Your idea does actually sound different. Most of the mob games (I think) typically have you controlling a "turf" or "territory" and ordering multiple people. If you control one person and building them up from nothing, more like GTA, I think that would be different.

I want to get some of the content figured out before I do all the coding.

To Halls- Thanks for the advice, and the vidoes-top job :D

To Jack- Yea, I'm hoping it will be different and will get many people interested :)

Heres a question for the community about the game

Should the attacking system be like The tutorial attaking system, where it gives you can leave the 'arena' at any time or code it so both players keep attacking until one is dead?

This never crossed my mind until just now. My original plan was to make it so they attacked eachother until one is dead. But now I'm thinking I could give the player the chance to attempt running or driving away (and any other features when I think of them)

Just want to get the communities opinion because I was working on coding it until one side is dead, but the calculations were getting messed up :?

i would make it where the player can leave. First it makes it easier on you. People like to find ways to trick the system and when you get them stuck in battle they will really try to find a way out. Second they may get bored if they happen to constantly get stuck attacking, or if they run into something they know they can't beat.

Hello there Indie-Resources!

Ive had a break from this site for a bit, and programming altogether tbh, bee busy with other things. But now I'm back into the swing of things!
Im having the problem of wanting to work on many things at once, but it won't work out

I would like to ask a question concerning Dreamweaver. I know how to use it (well, the basics), but when I want to see the Stat Panel (As seen in the tutorials) it doesn't come up.I was wandering how can you see it so you can do some work in the design window.
