NeverWinter Nights 2

Post by hallsofvallhalla »

Anyone currently playing it?

I just bought it and the expansion pack for $10 at the flea market so in my time away from coding I thought I might play it. Anyone know a good PW server?

That brings me to a thought of a ever growing living world. NWN2 would be the perfect gateway to creating it.

Imagine a Persistant world where it starts off very small, a village and a few quests and things. Maybe make the storyline where its a new world and people are coming over on ships to this small harbor village.

As the time passes you can continually develop the world bigger and bigger but using the community to do it. Having a storyline follow the forums. Have events where players decide what to be built or "buy" shops in game that are built in each update of the game. Setup raids of local creatures that attack areas then setup events on weekends where players can either raid the creatures lairs. If enough players show up and attack it then you remove it, if not then they remain but much less active.

Over a years time you would have a "real" history behind your game.

does it have a world builder like NWN? Or is it modable?

Comes with a toolset and the ability to mod, yes. Probably does not have all the capabilities that NWN had, because it's not exactly the same type of game, though it is very close and I believe is considered the successors to games such as Balders Gate and NWN.

I used to run a rather large persistent world for NWN 1. We had a team of 4 working on quests, items, maps, and tweaking the ai. The NWN world is an amazing way to really break into running and designing your own online RPG. You can script just about anything you want to happen in game with it's engine.

Our coder wrote a hack for our server to allow 500 people to log in.

I'm sure NWN 2 is even more robust than the first. I personally have not played it.

yes NWN 1 and 2 have awesome scripting systems

For some reason I thought Dragon Age was a older game. This looks awesome! Definitely picking this one up!

Actually, "Dragon Age" was a very old game that came out in the late 80's/early 90's. I am assuming this is a re-make or a semi-sequel of sorts.
