The Hobbit(so called movie)
I am only about 1/3 through the movie as it was so dull and off from the book that i went to bed but plan on finishing it tonight.
I AM SOOOOOO DISAPPOINTED!!! They should not have called this the Hobbit the unexpected journey. Should have just called it The Hobbit, Some random story.

Yes The Hobbit was written first.
Re: The Hobbit(so called movie)
I'm with you, Halls. I was really anticipating the Hobbit and went to the midnight premier. I came away feeling, "...D:" to say the least. Still, if you ignore what you know about the book, it's an interesting watch... Extra emphasis on the ignoring the book part, since it only vaguely follows it and rearranges some things seemingly for no reason.
The winds of change are blowing; will you heed their call?
Re: The Hobbit(so called movie)
Well thank god I never read the book(i should get down to that but I guess I'll wait for the next movie first), I LOVED the movie, found it freaking epic

Re: The Hobbit(so called movie)
So far the movie is a bit dull. I mean to me if they are going to hack up the book they would at least making it exciting but the over acting and drawn out scenes are irritating.
Re: The Hobbit(so called movie)
Aside from the subplot with Magua the Orc (or whatever his name was. Magua was the main antagonist in Last of the Mohicians and that orc reminds me of him), I like it. My son read the book in anticipation of the film. We had a rule that he had to read the book first. To quote him while watching the movie:
My problem is with the gratuitous action. The kinds of scenes - especially inside the orc halls - were more reminiscent of a typical action movie than the Hobbit. The problem with the Hobbit (the book that is) is that it really is slow paced by modern standards. If you look at the old animated version of the Hobbit - which iirc hews pretty close to the book - it is REALLY slow paced and would bore audiences desensitized by years of filmy involving sensory overload. I'm not so sure that the orc was Peter Jackson's idea so much as the suits telling him that if he wants a ridiculous amount of money to make this film, there needs to be some action in it.That's not in the book... but its awesome!

Re: The Hobbit(so called movie)
I heard one of the reasons The Hobbit kept coming close to being scrapped was because of the obvious pace differences. There is no way around your average movie goer connecting it to LotR, which had a lot of action to it. And there was no way to avoid The Hobbit being seen as a "LotR sequel" to people not familiar with Tolkien's work, even though The Hobbit came first, and was much smaller and slower in scope as Tolkien was working up to his epic, LotR. So Peter Jackson's hand was basically forced to ratchet-up The Hobbit to at least keep it in the same pacing universe as LotR. In the end, they fully embraced the connection to LotR (even writing the logo exactly as the Rings trilogy's had been written) and just upped the action by making liberal changes to try to partially deliver on it being seen as a LotR prequel.Cayle wrote:My problem is with the gratuitous action. Re: The Hobbit(so called movie)
I understand it needed more action but that s no reason to make stuff up. There were plenty of areas for filler in the current story. Also if you are getting paid 100'sof millions of dollars to make a movie and you can't make it exciting without out cheesy action scenes that look like something out of Pirates of the Carribean then you need to find a new job.
I finished watching it last night and it got a little better but it is NOT the Hobbit. It is Pirates of the Middle Earth.

Re: The Hobbit(so called movie)
I quite agree.
For example, with the scene of the Three Trolls; the Dwarves give up?! Knowing that they would be eaten!?!?!? That was thick with cheesiness.
And during the first half, seemed to be a reenactment of the LOTR; for example, the flashback of the Dwarves and Orcs looked pretty much the same as Suron fighting the Humans.
That is one of the problems faced with big budgeted movies, they are designed for as large of a demographic as possible. So have to assume that most people have never read or heard of the Hobbit, and perhaps have seen LOTR.
Though in the end, I do like it; just irksome of some of the changes made. Had the movie been catered to those who love the original works, I imagine the movie would have been great; but not so to the major of the popcorn eating dumb-down population. Hey, that is just like games...
To say a positive note of The Hobbit, I did like the added scene of the Witch King (The Leader of the Nazgul).
