Anyone played the turn based global combat type games? Where turns are like every 6 hours or so and it is basically like risk. You are all competing for global domination. Instead of steady actions that someone could play for hours and end and dominate you have to use strategy as everyone has the same turns per so many hours.
Anyone like them? Worth playing? Any fun?

I personally am not one who likes to wait that long. I need instant results, and often, I find that if someone has to wait that long for a turn, then interest is lost very quickly.

There is a cool flash-strategy game called battledawn it's turn-based and at every hour(some servers) it updates everything, resources units movement attacks etc... It's pretty popular and I got to admit that I got addicted to it hehe xD
well as 1234dude said not everyone likes it, but the ones who do(including myself) are loyal to the game.

I thought that's why alot of games straddle the middle ground, giving you X number of turns per day, but you can play them out in five minutes.62896dude wrote:I personally am not one who likes to wait that long. Or it plays out each hour, but you can assign your commands in advance to happen on each hour.

I have played some games where you get turns at set intervals. Ones I liked and played for a good amount of time (usually a year or a few years each):
Nukezone.nu - modern text based combat
Utopia - fantasy text based combat
MechG - mech text based combat
Merchant Empires (APME) - text based space trading and combat
Chosen Space - text based space trading and combat
