Hello I am new here

Post by kibbeyj »

I have just signed up for this wonderful forum. I have been watching Halls vids due to my wanting to create an online RPG browser game of my very own. I am working with PHP to start. I know web page design but very little html or php. I am willing to learn and take advice. Thank you for supporting new coders in their quest to become game makers.

Day 2 and I am upset at myself and still do not get anything at all. I think I am just stuck on the sidelines forever looking at the varsity team.

If your trying to understand it all at once, you have to break it down into smaller bites and understand them. Small bites - like if you've installed wamp server and written a 'hello world' php file and run it in a browser, that's learnt something important/a bite.

If you just want to learn the whole thing in one huge bite, you probably are stuck on the sidelines.

Yeah sorry just overwhelming as I have all the ideas I want yet lack the knowledge to make them work. Mainly I am wanting a text browser game with some pics of creatures that can be killed, some PVP killing (like the creatures) also an ajax map to move from city to city. I look at the coding and go "WOW". I guess I need to go slower but I couldnt even get the tutorials to work right. I guess I need to learn what each command does and maybe then I can understand it.

Once I tried to show someone how to increase and decrease a single number. They acted like it was nothing. But it's actually like a single note on a piano - other browser games you've seen are like a symphony of number manipulation. But they all consist of single notes. Until you see the numbers like neo, your stuck being a blue pill like the guy who thought it was nothing (if I may sound dramatic for a moment). I might write up a really simplistic tutorial and post it (if so I'll link to it here). Did you install wamp server and it worked, by the way?
