New rule!(Please Read!)

There are tons of posts of questions and problems that members are trying to get help for. Many have already been answered and others have not.

From now on lets edit our first post and add to the end of the title (Resolved) if and when it is resolved
so this way we know the problem is fixed. It will help a ton for i have gotten behind on being able to help as much as i want.

so if I create a topic

How to create dynamic javascript variables

and Chris comes along and says

use either eval(var + i = $var2);
or better yet use arrays!

then i go oh thanks that worked!

I would then change the topic to
How to create dynamic javascript variables(Resolved)

so then others looking for the answer will know to look there and others with the answer will know it is fixed.

If any mods and/or original posters get time to go through some posts and do this that would be great!!! No biggie if it is too much work. i will also do the same as i go through some these.

Just don't lock the threads when they are resolved. Sometimes, on forums I see code fixes which have several security flaws, with the thread locked, there is no way to inform them and any visitors. Although occasionally threads might get duggen up, I think it would be better than locking it.

There's also one flaw to this: when people post questions on the video threads, there is no way to mark if they are resolved or not. Personally, I think '[Resolved]' is a bit long and might clutter up the titles of threads, maybe an abbreviation?

Technically, posters were never supposed to post questions in the video threads, since they were supposed to go in the tutorial question area. But most of the time it is the newest members who post there, and they don't know that they aren't supposed to. With this new plan to mark threads, maybe we need to start splitting off questions posted in the videos and putting them into the tutorial question section.

That would be the most obvious solution, and it would make the video pages a lot easier to read.

If we removed the questions from the video page, then newer members would also be less tempted to post in the video threads for code fixes. Though the viability of splitting off previous questions from all the tutorials might not be feasible in terms of the time it would take to split them.

Could you not get an extension for question topics that can then be marked resolved?

the questions in the videos might as well stay. We just need to move the question threads out to the appropriate folder, along with all the forums. Seems questions are spread out. We just need to move them and get them marked and then start being more firm about the rules of where to post

I figured it is better to let it get a mess so when you fix and go hard on the rules people understand why and dont call you a a-hole

Can we report questions that seem to have been resolved - not because it's bad, but simply to help out moderators to locate them? Or does the dude who started it have to declare its resolved? I think alot of people are kinda flakey so that'll leave alot of resolved threads without being edited.

That might be a good idea, while we try and sort all this out...putting things where they belong now.

This should probably become a forum-wide announcement if that is possible phpBB (I think it is). Otherwise there is no way enough people are going to see it.
