Starcraft II

Post by windextor »

I need some tech advice :P

Starcraft II is coming out, and I need a desktop PC that can run that on maximum settings. What would be advisable in terms of processor, graphics card and RAM?

Hmm, I checked those links, but I was considering something more like this:

- Intel CORE i7 920
- ATI HD 5850 1GB DDR5
- 6GB DDR3-1333 Tri Channel

or this:

- Intel CORE i7 920
- NVIDIA GTX 470
- 6GB DDR3-1600 Tri Channel

You think this runs SCII with maxed out graphics settings?

ah so you want to spend bigger bucks, yeah that will run anything as long as you stick with nvidia ;)

others may say ATI is great, i just don't like ATI and have had only problems from them in my 18 years of working with computers. Even though they may not have been around that long ;)

If you are wanting to spend $1000 or more on a PC, it will be able to run anything released for at least a year on max settings.

I have a Q9550 quad core 2.8ghz processor, with 8GB of 1055 RAM and a 1gb Nvidia GTX275 video card..I havn't been able to find anything I can't max out yet. My system processes rarely get over 50% ram, and the only time the processor is even near maxed is when I'm rendering something.

And yes, I run SC2 with everything maxed on this system. Cost me around 1000 IIRC last august when I built it.
Adobe Photoshop CS4/Illustrator CS4
Adobe Flash CS4
3DS Max & Maya
PC Spec:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 (2.8ghz)
8gb 800Mhz DDR2 RAM
1gb nVidia GTX275
2TB SATA HD
Windows 7 RTM

Your siggie says different, better update it. ;)

I use a laptop: I need the portability.
Planning on getting a mac and then modding it into a modbook soon.

Finally, there is a touch-screen mac laptop (ipad doesn't count)(and yes, modbook was released in 2006)

Haha we are never gonna agree on this :P

If you want crappier hardware for double the price, go for a GTX 480, otherwise a 5850 will be able to run the game smoothly at highest settings with no problems. If you want to see some real arguments for each of them, try search mine and halls post about nvidia & ati :P
