Everquest

Post by hallsofvallhalla »

So I went over to a friend of a friends house and he had a everquest emu running. He doesn't have it open to the public, or advertise really. Just close friends and lan parties. I sat and played with them, first real time playing EQ and I actually had fun. I played it years ago but quit very quickly. With just a collection of people, average party you would play with anyways, it was a neat experience. No lagging and of course no problems with graphics set on super high :) I am actually going to setup the same for my lan parties and a game I can treat as a RPG that is always up and running. Its a great environment for a persistant world for a small group.

I am not getting into the argument of whether emus are legal or right.

The tools to dit the DB are quite extensive too. You can literally create your own world. I personally wouldn't want to do that for a lan game but neat that the community is still so large and expansive.

I think I played an EQ before too (not sure if it was 1 or 2 though)
Was actually pretty fun, but that was long enough ago that I wasn't old enough to be paying for a monthly fee.

You will have to do a lot of tinkering to get it set up for small parties or solo play. Like most MMOs from that era, you have to have a full group with all roles covered to really get anywhere. I guess if you turned the xp up really high (which it needs a huge boost anyway compared to modern games), you could successfully solo and duo then.

yeah that's something I forgot to mention, xp was like 5x or something.
The place is so big it would take a small party forever to explore it all! I never realized how big EQ is. You have to get Titanium edition and it is like 8 expansion packs. thousands upon thousands of items.

As far as really hard bosses, the game is very easy to edit. You could actually edit it a bit as you go through it solo to make it better for when a party comes through it or a second time around. Also I am finding TONS of custom maps and stuff for it. Like solo worlds.

Yeah, with all of the expansions I think EQ is the largest MMO out there. It has something like 50 square miles of zones lol.

I played EQ2 I think for a while, didn't really like it that much. Also tried Eve Online last month, quite nice, but unfortunatly don't got the time to play :(

EQ1 and EQ2 are really only related in name and in basic story/setting similarities. The gameplay is completely different. EQ2 tried to make itself more like WoW, while EQ1 stayed, for the most part, true to the camping/group grinding gameplay it started with.

i am actually liking it. Especially for lan parties. There are tons of servers with tons of players still playing.

I have also been playing GTA san andreas multiplayer. VERY AWESOME.
