Graduated License, the second level, allowing one to drive by themselves in a car.
Starts with G1: Can drive with adult in car with a 'G' license, and 5 years experience (i think)
G2: Can drive in car by yourself
G: Final standard car license, pretty much lowers insurance rates andmaybe a little more forgivability in minor traffic violations

Then there are motorcycle licenses and large truck, etc.

Is that in the US? Restricted licenses started right after I got my license when I was 16. So people getting them a month after me had about 5 years of upgrading licenses with various restrictions while I had a completely unrestricted license from day one :D

What's the expected costs for a license, I mean the whole thing? In norway we don't have those kinds of graded drivers license for cars, but then again getting it is quite extensive with lots of theoretical training, and driving practice.

The absolutely required hours for the license cost almost $2000, but then you've not had much actual driving on the road, so you'll need driving hours too, at a rate of about $100 each. I think I had about 8, so a total of $2800. I've heard others need almost double of that before they're allowed to graduate.

Well, I live in Canada too. Toronto to be specific.

It cost us 125$ this includes our written test, a 5 year license, and a attempt at your G2. if you fail your G2 it is 40$ for a retake and you must wait 10 days in between test.

for your full license test the cost is 75$ each attempt.

I got my test on thusday :) (11th). In UK though we have.

Provisional: Pay £50, can drive with someone who has been driving for 3 years and over 21 in front seat.
then take your theory £31, then practical £62
Full license: Drive anywhere on your own.
Pass plus: Lowers insurance with some companie.s

I lived in back woods Missouri. Dad gave me keys to the car at 12 and told me to go learn how to drive. At age 14 we built a dirt track in the woods behind the house and we bought a 60's model state patrol car with a 454 in it! Man that was fun. Drove illegally until age 17 .I got my drivers license, paid $30 and age 18 got my Motorcycles license, paid like $30 for that too. Paid $125 though for my boating license at age 20. Been driving everything I get get my hands on since!
