Idea for building something
Idea for building something
Hi, I have this brilliant idea, however for this idea I shall require a substance. The substand must be flexible, quite strong, stretchy and must some how be able to contract when, preferably electricity, or something else passes through it. The two words I can best think to describe it would be Elastic Muscle. Anyone ever heard of anything that might get the job done?

I don't think any material such as that exists. If it did, we would not be using electrical vacuum pumps, because this material could be used as a form of artificial diaphragm. The only properties of most substances in regards to electrical current is if it is conductive or not, and most of the time that will not have any impact on the physical makeup. Every once in a while you may get a material that is both easily flammable and conductive, which means it will catch on fire. Or the current could cause it to light up (hence traditional light bulbs). However, I don't think any non-living material exists that will contract with electrical current. Electricity just doesn't work that way.

I already googled it XD I know there was something.. I'm not sure if it contracted with an electricity current. But that could also be done with small magnets or something..

Would some kind of hydraulic system not work? I just don't think there is any substitute for them.

No that will be totally be off the point. Thanks for the suggestion though.

If you could go with heating rather than electricity, I think that could open up some options.

Well...I am not actually sure what the substance would be. I am just thinking of the physics of heat vs electricity. Heat can cause reversible physical deformity, whereas electricity really can't. Perhaps you could try speaking to a physics or chemical engineering professor at a local college?Chris wrote:Please.Jackolantern wrote:If you could go with heating rather than electricity, I think that could open up some options.
