Greetings.

Post by RolsenRoyce »

For the time being, I am a rookie in web programming.
But since I have weird working hours, I have both income and lots of free time on my hands.

So I thought, why not try to make browser game? Let's see how far a No-One can go?

I found hallsofvalhalla's videos when googling around, and they sure help, they are excellent for rookies as me.
I had to register myself, because this forum is one of the places where I will come to nag about my problems :)

For those who wonder, what game?
Keywords; Present war, gridmap, resource control, alliances, armaments, terrain.
A salad of databases can do that, right? :)
With my current speed, I hope I have a beta before xx amount of months :)

And I really look forward to hang here and learn, learn and learn.

Cheers.

Welcome and glad to have ya! This is a great place to nag about your problems. We may not have all the answer but we will sure pretend like we do :)

you can do all those wanted features with one database and with some free time you can have a beta in as little as a few months. I have been working on Armageddon Earth for only about a month and I have quite a bit done.

Given his last message was in 2009, I guess the project didn't hit beta in XX months.

But you know, if you can admit you failed at something, that's still actually an achievement to admit that. 199 ways to not invent a lightbulb and all that!

That's one way not to get a browser game to beta. Good! You got one down, which is one more than before! :)

LOL I did not see the original date. I thought he said "I failed you" after just a couple of hours.

And no, it is not a failure. You seriously have to look at development from the standpoint of what you learn sometimes, and not always about what you produce. If you learned a lot more about programming, and realized maybe the size and scope of your project was detrimental to your finishing it, then you learned a lot and are way ahead of the curve. Maybe you also learned a lot about the importance of planning every detail (both mechanics and technical specifications) ahead of time and how important commenting code is. These are all great things to take from your first major project, whether or not it was finished.
