What is up and coming?

Post by Leathel »

Been out of the game dev stuff for a couple years. So what's hot these days and looking good for the future? Unity looks to still control the 3D world? Lots of HTML5 and JavaScript looks promising for 2D stuff. WebGL stuff looks cool, but doesn't seem like it is up to par with Unity and not well supported yet.

Those both actually look pretty impressive. Looks like possibly an iPhone work around based off one of the sites. I wouldn't do an MMO again, but networking from any device is definitely cool stuff.

Leathel, whatever became of Foundations of Hope. Did you ever "finish" (an MMO is never really finished, ever) it, or put it on ice?

I was very close to a release. I had T3D and TGE worlds talking to the same database. I had a web store and game database talking to each other. In the end, I had to choose what would make true money and that was getting my college degree. At the time I could not get to interviews because of no degree even with 15 years of corporate work experience and never want to go through that again. Oh if I could revive it into a more web/mobile friendly architecture now, that would be tempting. My wife might not agree :)

really no interviews without degree? Sounds like you were barking up microsoft, google's, and IBMs tree as they are the few companies left that require a degree :) BUT you cannot go wrong with a degree. It is definitely something worthy of achieving and will help get that foot in the door.
