A lot of people are very impressed with it and are even calling it an evolution in Javascript development. I am not sure what the implications are for game development, but it sounds like it could make multiplayer games even easier. It is still fairly young and early on in development, but I am going to be keeping my eye on it!

Meteor
Has anyone else heard of Meteor, the Javascript framework? It is quite different from the others, in that in encompasses both a client-side framework, as well as a back-end built on top of Node. The client-side and server-side are always kept in sync, and from what I have read, it appears that the client automatically binds to the state in the server, and if anything changes, the change is automatically pushed to the client.

Re: Meteor
Yep I saw it... however somehow I'm scared by the fact it gives access to the database from the client side code. I wonder how you prevent DB injections with such design. I know there is some sort of allow / deny rules on the server, still I find it dangerous. Not the kind of tool I would use personally. Also, I never really need that kind of data, where one person edit and the others must get realtime updates of the page they are checking. Maybe useful for a forum, but otherwise I really wonder when you would need such design.

Re: Meteor
Surely there are security precautions to prevent that, considering that Meteor is not the first system to do RPC client to server and vice versa. As far as the requirements of having a client edit data and then instantly having others see that edit, that is essentially how multiplayer games work if you just add a tiny bit of abstraction

Re: Meteor
Yes, but for multi-player games I would have other requirements which meteor doesn't offer. Also, socket.io and node.js will offer you most of what you need.

True! I won't really be trying out Meteor until it gets further along in development and has more documentation. I guess we will see how it turns out!
