I had a question, android and linux are both open source software, does this allow us to use the Android mascot or the Linux penguin as characters in our game?

I am not sure if there is a separate trademark on them, but literally hundreds of devs have done just that lol. I see games all the time with "Andy" the Android mascot, and I think I have seen a couple before with the Linux penguin. Of course "everyone else is doing it" is never a good excuse when it comes to the law, so I would suggest looking into it a bit more.

I know that while Ruby on Rails is open source, their logo is trademarked and strictly controlled, which is how they control their "official manuals" and make money.
