I am thinking of creating a "pwn like" script. Basically you signup and get a special link. You then get people to click on it and when they do you get a point. I remember their being an advanced version where it was city themed. You got 4 special links instead of 1 and each one was a different resource for your city. I would like to know if this is considered a "browser mmo"? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Aleeious
P.S. If some knows the game I'm talking above, it would be appreciated if you could provide a link to it.

Re: Classification
Can you explain the "link"? You mean you got a link that you post on other websites and try to get people to click it? If so, that is basically an ad spamming game. Those are fairly common, and what they are doing is routing the click through their servers so they can give you the perk, and then it gets routed to the advertiser to make the game money. I have seen a few of those.

Ouch thanks for warning me, I don't want to be associated with those types of games.Jackolantern wrote:Can you explain the "link"? this is the type of script i am thinking of making but,as you stated it is an ad spamming site i am reluctant to continue. Are you sure that this is a spam site disguised in sheep's clothing? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

You mean a domain squatter script? All I see on that page is one of those generic domain squatter sites.

Re: Classification
Ok, actually, it isn't an ad spamming site, at least not directly. Instead, the game's main growth mechanic is making its users advertise the game itself. Which, in itself is kind of rotten, but not quite as bad. It still boils down to getting more people on the page to see the ad in the upper-right corner to make more money. Is there any gameplay beyond getting people to click the link to go to the game? If not, then it is basically a game-ified form of a pyramid scheme lol.

Re: Classification
Not really, every person who visits the link increases the population by one. Eventually you get links for transportation, jobs, security etc. If there aren't enough jobs people start leaving your city. If traffic is a big problem they leave. If crime is rampant they leave. So in a sense there is some sort of game play, just not much. Not sure if that makes a difference but many facebook games have a pyramid scheme where you need to recruit friends for increase game play. Simpsons Tapped for example requires you add friends and visit their city every so often or your rating drops. Should i still attempt to create a script like myminicity or do you think it's in bad taste to do so? Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I have problems with many Facebook games as well for that very reason. In my mind, a game should be self-contained, and not require its players to bug their friends to come and play to get ahead

For a Facebook game it shouldn't be a requirement for friends to play, however you should be encouraged to get them involved. I think it's farmville where players get bonuses for each friend who checks their farm? That is a fairly good system of advertising.Jackolantern wrote:I have problems with many Facebook games as well for that very reason.
