Re: Need some opinions ofr an RTS
Is there any idea as to what sort of RTS other than the setting? I'm curious.

RTS based on ant colonies.
Fighting for peace is declaring war on war. If you want peace be peaceful.

Been done. I remember playing an old PC game back in the early 90s that was exactly that. You had a red ant colony and a black ant colony and you would send out your "scout ants" to find food sources and you had to protect your queen ant. You also had to avoid the other ants and the spider that would kill your ants.Chris wrote:RTS based on ant colonies.

I remember SimAnt as well. Those were the days, playing SimAnt, SimEarth, and those early Maxis games.xcalpro wrote:Been done. Re: Need some opinions ofr an RTS
Are there any post-apocalyptic RTS games out there? The only one I can find at all is APOX, which was made by a fairly small developer and never really made a splash. Considering how popular post-apocalyptic settings have become in RPGs and MMOs, I am quite surprised there are no RTSs out there that use the setting. Even APOX looked quite a bit like more of a higher-level post-apocalyptic setting, where people have large war machines, seem to be rebuilding, etc. I think a very low post-apocalyptic setting could be cool, where the game basically takes place months after the apocalyptic event occurs, where people are scavenging everything they can instead of being well into rebuilding a new world.

I am surprised by the lack of post post-apocalyptic to. It is popular amongst RPGs.Jackolantern wrote:Too long to quote

All of them have been done to death part from post apocalyptic but games like red alert spring to mind.. not really post apocalyptic more than pre haha but still,
I guess I would be interested in seeing a PA RTS if it was good.

I think post-apocalyptic would be great if it was dark and grimy in a chaotic world that is at risk of completely falling apart. A PA RTS that goes more for the "world rebuilt after the apocalypse sometime in the future" setting risks becoming lost in the piles of sci-fi RTS. Fallout 1, 2 and to a lesser degree 3, really represent a good PA setting in my opinion
