My small draft of a small game world: Driftwurld

Have a project in the works but not much media? How about an idea you are turning into a project? Maybe a game design document you want to start with. This is the place.

Hi Shihonoryu,

Yeah, it was quite difficult implimenting the new stuff into the map. I'm used to writing single pages and working something into an existing map framework was fiddley. I think I've learnt more though.

Right now I think the hosting service has a expired security certificate issue (probably due to the leap year) which I'd prefer they resolve so I know I'm logging in properly. Then I can upload the updates.

In the next stage I'm hoping to have established players sponsor new ones, a system where they buy them body armour and an omega blade so they can instantly go out into the game world (and the money spent on them is repayed over time, even if that new player ceases playing).

I'm kind of looking at urban deads structure in terms of players moving around the map, constructing forts, resources gatherers (though UD doesn't do this) and such.

Then bring in the King of the Hell Drift's minions to disrupt it all. Which players can decide to become one of his minions, as an easy power trip and way of more pure PVP that doesn't really require resource gathering.

Will expand the size of the map in future as well!

It'll be great one day to see waves of wilderness survivors building fortifications and the Hell Kings minions clashing!

I'm toying with the idea of a werewolf conversion, if you take up being a hell king minion. It seems to suit the setting - it'd need to be somethign magical or mystical anyway, as that's the hell kings power source!

Working on being able to build farms. The design plan is like this: This isn't directly to make money from, what happens is when there's a farm there that means there are lots of eyes checking out the landscape. Then as a player you can spread a few bucks to get the local gossip and find out what nearby resources the farmers have seen (but they don't have the protective gear to go get). You then travel over to the location and harvest the pelts, fungi, wood suitable for making fine furnishings, dead creatures steel bones, and other strange things! You pay some of the local craftsmen to refine them and then you sell them on. The money made is more considerable than the past money making ventures, and so will help fund higher levels of repair and even better body armour.

Weird. The free host I'm using - well, the game still lets you log in. But I can't get to the phpmyadmin - it's acting as if I have no databases!? I have updates, but I need to add new values to the player table (I guess I could make php pages which do this for me, then delete them - seems awkward. Any advice on that is welcome). I've sent in a trouble ticket. I demand my money back ;) lol!

So I'm waiting on that - the new add ons is the one mentioned above plus a player loan system, where when new players register if someone is offering a loan, the new player auto takes it and can talk in the chat room and has armour so they can move around the map (loans are paid back in part each day, even if the other player stops playing). Also you can now see other players on the map.

I'd kind of not done anything for awhile - but when I got pumped enough to add this bit, now I find my host is stopping me!

To an Ostrosaurus? Were you scouting to detect them?

Also if you hunt enough raptors you can go fury beetle hunting and potentially get cheap armour that way.

Maybe I'll add in some sort of salvage kit option you can purchase for X amount which once you own it you can spend $700 or so gets your armour back to 1 point (rather than having to buy new armour).

BUT still waiting on getting access to the database again!

Okay, looking into that. The myphpadmin is back up, which is good. Just testing the new code for bugs.

On the test server I've coded it that if you have a salvage kit it will salvage your armour back to 1 point for free the next day. When I've uploaded the new code I'll grant you a free salvage kit, since you're playing in the wild beta days of Driftwurld!
