Re: Open Source host
Github really has become the industry standard, and then maybe Codeplex for .NET projects. It has been a long time (maybe going back to MySpace) since I have seen such a popular service meteorically fall in usage and popularity as SourceForge did. About 6+ years ago, basically every single open-source project was on there. But Github just basically killed them by creating more of a social, straight-forward system. At this point it has been probably 2 or 3 years since I have even downloaded something or heard of a project on SourceForge.

Github all the way. You could also use something more private like SVN.

Re: Open Source host
I've still got Angela on sourceforge, but it has been a loooooooooooong time since I've started a new OSS project. I've used github to get things, but honestly, I've never really quite groked it and floundered until I got my library downloaded my code. Are there any good overviews of it anywhere?

I still do like SourceForge. It has way more options and features than Github. But Github is also quite nice for some of the more social features they have over SourceForge. So I think they are both great in their own ways, for somewhat different projects. Github has taken over, though.

Github is only a new take on subversion with a little social networking added. It has all the features any repo should have. I personally never used SourceForge as they have advertisements on their site. Something I hate.
