Life

Post by mattykins »

So, I've decided that i'm going to begin working on my first serious project :)

I think I have enough knowledge of C# to make it work.

It is a text based game simply called 'Life', although the title is subject to change

Essentially the game is running through a loop, of Monday through Sunday. Each day there will be different actions you can preform, for example on mon-fri you can work and gain money. Then on Saturday you can go to the store and spend that money to buy lets say, a home gym. Then you have the option to work out , and i'm going to make different jobs avaliable to you. So lets say you work out a lot and get your muscle stat up very high, you can then become a proffesional body builder, or MMA fighter. Same thing goes if you get lets say your intelligence up, you can become a computer programmer, architect, game designer, etc.

There will be multiple stats that you will level and they will all affect the game play accordingly.

However, what kind of life game would this be if i did not allow you to be evil. I fully intend to allow evil occupations such as a drug dealer, or joining the Mafia.

I also intend on doing random events, such as every day there will be an x% chance of winning the lottery and gaining x amount of money.

What do you guys think? After finals next week i should have a lot of free time to work on it. :)

Sounds cool! It is also good to see a new programmer taking on projects that can actually be finished in a couple of weeks to further their abilities. So many newcomers want to dive right in to making a 3D MMORPG from scratch (which is ridiculous lol), then they get frustrated and give up after a month or so. You definitely sound like you are on your way to becoming a talented game dev! 8-)

Thanks :) And I know to pace myself, I don't plan on making the best game of 2012 or anything like that xD But if i take babysteps, maybe I can get there some day :)

Also, if it weren't for this awesome community I probably would have given up long ago, you guys have helped me solve a lot of problems, and have just been generally amazing :D

damn! now i wont sleep tonite ;) I have to find it and i cant remember the name!...
A Looong time ago (most of you are prob too young to remember it ;)) i played almost identical game. It was very simple but it was fun after few beers :p
There was 1 screen with town on it, there was few places to work like bank, school, fastfood, shop ect. Few places to life from poor to luxurious. You could buy things for your house to show off, you could go to school to get better job, you had to eat and sleep. It was kinda turn based (1 round was 24h) and you could play with friends to see who will get the richest at given time.
Like i said it was fun, especially in multiplayer but i have some concerns about text games, tbh i wouldnt play text game anymore.. i guess
Still its a great idea to learn and train c++ so good luck!
