Re: Enemies List?
I have had similar issues trying to come up with enemies for historical settings. You could maybe squeeze some more enemies out of that list by breaking them up into where in Europe they came from. Also don't forget the Prussians played a large part on Britain's side and were basically mercenaries.

And what would be the difference between all these enemies in gameplay terms apart from the name?

something like that.

I would suggest you first make list of all the availeble abilities in your game and then look for names for the possible enemies.
For example if your game could support mounted units then this would grant you access to much wider spectre of units but if it doesnt then no need to look up for names and research information for mounted units.

Re: Enemies List?
I already have a spreadsheet of all there different abilities, I just haven't put it here yet
Re: Enemies List?
You shoulnd`t worry about what "ahum" types of soldiers you have at first, but rather make sure you have all the armies available. Like Jack said, there`s a plethora of armies out there, from the heavily armoured Prussians to the lightarmoured Ottomans, the French Imperial army to the Royal Brittish army. All these kinds of armies have their own unique abilities, or units. For example the Brittish and French armies were great in line infantry while the Mongols were great mounted, be it as javelins or swordsmen. Now i know it`s all getting confusing since the Mongols predate any line infantry units by some 600 years but still, you get the point right?
Another thing: what is now Germany ( old Prussia and Poland ) they had strong mounted units, but are somewhat barbaric, whereas the Dutch have little to no real strong units, but were great flankers. The Polish had strong infantry.
So it`s not the list of units an army should have , rather where did an army focus on? What are the specialities of that army? What did they do good or bad? If you know the strength and weakness of an army, you can start to assemble a unitslist for it and act accordingly.

Re: Enemies List?
The problem was that the idea was for a Revolutionary War game. There really isn't a lot to choose from. There was basically the British Royal Army, their Prussian mercenaries, and the Colonial "forces". Most other countries avoided entering on either side because although most in Europe wanted America to win and embarrass Britain, pretty much everyone assumed it was hopeless and didn't want to cheese Britain off further lol. If it was a fantasy game where you could choose from the strongest armies from all of history, it would be a lot easier to come up with enemies!
