Persistant sever based game to host?
Looking for a good game to host that everyone can get into including friends of mine. I estimate between 1 and 20 concurrent players so it would need to have enough for one player to play along with multiple players. it would be hosted 24/7
The client needs to be free or easy to attain. if you recommend a emu DO NOT post a link.

Persistent Server based game? - Unless you're looking for a specific kind of game, I would probably have to suggest something creative and relatively fun, it's also great for a community like this, where exciting and innovative plugins can be created with intermediate Java knowledge: Minecraft.
You can get hold of the game; the server simply requires you to run it and keep running it (as you would imagine). Clients, would connect by entering the URL of the website, or a specific IP
Again, you could look at hosting some game clones' private servers and even have a hack at modifying the code to suit the community playing it. This is also a particularly good idea for Java programming plugins, you could even make a community project out of existing source, who knows, if you modify it enough, it could pass as a completely different game
I'll have a think for some other games that are persistent and 24/7

I think Halls had a Minecraft server going for a little while, or was at least playing on one. I can't remember now lol.
What about a Neverwinter Nights PW, Halls? 1 or 2. Do people have completed, ready-to-go PWs out there to download and run, or do people tend to keep those to themselves?

Oh yeah, that doesn't fit the bill for that, then.
I know it doesn't look very technical, but one game that freely allows the downloading of their server and server source code is Deliantra. It has a reversed Isometric viewpoint like Ultima Online, and appears to be indie. I haven't actually played it, but it actually looks promising. It has what sounds like a large world, complex character customization, interesting sounding classes and spell types, customizable player housing, etc. All-in-all it looks like there is a lot to know about the world. Could be interesting

Re: Persistant sever based game to host?
I used to host my own UO shard around 2005. So it's been a really long time

Have a few people wanting to play UO so UO it is for now. Due to legal things i will not post a link here or the server info. Anyone is welcome but PM for the info. The client is free.
