Top 8 scenes that prove Hollywood doesn't get tech

Post by Jackolantern »

I thought I needed to share this Cracked article here, as I thought it was very funny. How does this stuff get past producers and actually end up on TV? Some of it (particularly #1) is almost shockingly ignorant/stupid.

I'm only at the keyboard one and I'm laughing!

There's something impossibly human organic about the scriptwriters thinking - like some caveman thinking that if two people bash at a keyboard, it's better than one! I could imagine having a dream where two people using the same keyboard makes sense - but I would have an excuse that I would be unconcious!
As fast as they were hammering that keyboard, it would have had the same exact effect if one of them had just started slamming their entire palm across it and screaming like a frightened chimp.
LOL! Exactly!

Haha! I love Cracked!

You have to at least also check out #1. It is mortifying for anyone who has ever played a game even once, or has even the slightest resemblance of knowledge over how a game console works (if you have ever turned one on, even once, you have more knowledge than the script writer).

Woot! Go go viral article! 8-)

EDIT: Honestly, almost everything on Cracked is link-worthy, so I can't take much credit for finding it lol. I just thought that one was extra-applicable to us techy folks!

very funny, i love it. All true too. I see the exact stuff and do a face palm myself. Nothing drives me more nuts than when they pull stunts like #1.

My favorite is the
"I'll create a GUI interface using Visual Basic. See if I can track an IP address."

OMG that is the biggest insult of them all.

Oddly enough, I actually have a fair bit of medical knowledge, and they get it around the mark much more often. You would have a hard time finding a top 8 list this bad of medical scenes lol. Of course they have to dramatize things for TV, but for some reason they actually do a bit of research before throwing out some crap. I think it is because they consider it more "respectable" or something like that. They assume anyone who knows about gaming, programming and computers is a loser who's opinions don't matter (they pretty much proved that with the guy's comment in #1), while those who know about the medical field are doctors and nurses, who they need to respect and who's opinions are important

Of course, I could be wrong, as I don't like medical shows and only have a bit of experience with them when someone else is watching them, such as House lol.
