Photoshop Installation Problems

OK... I have a problem. This is on my XP Pro box - latest service packs, etc.

I had a copy of Photoshop CS2 installed that I've used off and on for a couple years (my wife got it to work with digital photography). This past weekend, I picked up CS3 really cheap on EBay (new in box, still shrink-wrapped). I figured what the heck, I'd upgrade.

In uninstalled CS2 and popped in my CS3 DVD... it won't install.

A window pops up and lets me click to install CS3, then a windows dialog pops up showing a few files being copied, then nothing. No error, no message, it just goes away.

I headed off to Google... apparently this is a widely known problem with Photoshop and they have a Cleaner tool to help resolve the problem. I downloaded and ran it. Now setup won't even run. It just flashes on the screen briefly and goes away. I look in my Add/Remove programs list and see a whole bunch of CS3 programs (Bridge, Scripts, Photoshop, etc.), but none of them have an uninstall button and non of them do anything when I click on them. I nuked my entire Adobe folder under Program Files. Nothing I've tried will let me install.

Anyone know what the heck I can do to get this to install? Apparently Adobe doesn't support CS3 any more, so they are no help. All the solutions I've found via Google refer to the cleaner tool, which apparently didn't work. I'm losing my mind

I uninstaled CS3 on an old work laptop the other day so that I could install that licence on a new one. I recall the uninstaller making some noise about "deactivating" before "uninstalling" if I wanted to reinstall it later. I did not worry about it as I know that IT will wipe the drive anyway, but it might point the way to the problem that you are having.

wow that sounds crazy. I am still using Photoshop 7...yes 7... so cant help but good luck.

Well, I fiddled with it all night last night... now things are worse. I ran some registry cleaners and removed every trace of all Adobe product that I could find. Photoshop still won't install, but now Microsoft Office and iTunes throw up errors when the machine starts. Apparently I cleaned the registry a little too well

May be time for a format/reinstall, man I hate that. Maybe I should just upgrade... this machine can barely run XP as it is, there's no way I can get W7 on it.

hehe yeah might be time. I know i get an affection towards my PCs after using them. They become like my best friend and i hate to trade them in but when crap starts failing then they gotta go!

I reformat twice a year. Love it. Like getting a brand new computer twice!

I picked up a new system over the weekend and got everything up and running. Photoshop installed painlessly on this one, and it runs so much better now

Along with Unity, Maya, Visual Studio... well, everything!

I debated reformatting and reinstalling, but I'm always frustrated by this machine's lack of hard drive space, lack of RAM, general sluggishness... it was time to go!

HEhe great, one thing I could think of why it wouldn`t install previously is not having a Java runtime active, but it`s a long shot. Somehow, some Adobe installations require a Java runtime to be installable.

I'm using CS5.5 two guesses where I got that from

My advice would be download something through torrents to try it before you buy it.
