Beef Jerky

Post by Chris »

When I was in New York last week I tried beef jerky for the first time. It's not the most common thing to find here in Europe. Yesterday I ordered 100 euros worth of the stuff. Anyone else like beef jerky?

I like real jerky (the kind that looks like dried meat), but am not a big fan of stuff like Slim Jims, just because you can't tell what is in it haha. I like the peppered steak kind of jerky, though, or Tobasco kinds!

I never knew it wasn't common in Europe, but I wonder if it has to do with the more recent tradition of hunting in the USA. It was common (and still is today for sport hunters) for hunters to dry their catch to preserve it, and making good, preservable jerky was a life-or-death skill for frontiersman.

Well by the looks of it you got jerky and we got stuck with kwark. I'm on about real jerky. Did you know it takes 400 grams of beef to make 100 grams of jerky. It's my new favorite snack!

Don't sell kwark (or "quark" as we spell it) short! I wish I could find some here so I could make my German wife her favorite German cheesecake (which is nothing like American cheesecake, and not sure about other European country's cheesecake)!

But yeah, the real jerky is the only way to go! I can totally feel that being your favorite snack. Chips don't hold a candle to jerky when you are actually hungry.

I'm game for that! :D

EDIT: Ohh, except you would pay exponentially more shipping due to package refrigeration costs. Blast! :(
