Hey there everybody!
So I'm getting close to finishing my first MMORPG (browser-based) and I am already looking to new ideas... so i would like a vote from you all!
Here are your very vague and general topic choices:
-Vampires
-Mafia (though far overdone)
-Pokemon
-X-Men
-Other? (If other, please mention what specifically you would like to see!)
Please be sure to let me know your opinion in the comment section! Looking forward to see what you guys have to say!

EDIT: FYI peoplez, it will be a Pokemon game, if you are interested in helping, I will be moving this topic to the Recruitment section to see if I can possibly get people's help!

Re: New MMORPG Idea?
How do you finish one MMORPG and move to the other? Are you not going to create updates or support your MMORPG?

Re: New MMORPG Idea?
Maybe the first one was just a test project not meant to be live and populated.
Of course, maybe that is not the case. I hear a lot of complaints from PBBG players that many of the lead devs of the games they play get "title fever", and find it very easy to convert their existing engine into new games with only different content. They then neglect their existing games in favor of creating new game after new game. Definitely not a step in the right direction compared to the old MUD days where many MUD admins were known as some of the most dedicated people in all of gaming, sometimes working like a slave and often even paying out of pocket for the enjoyment of their players. Some of those older MUDs have been in operation for 20 years or more, with constant content updates and steady support for their loyal staff. PBBGs could definitely do with that level of commitment.
Sorry for the slight off-topic, as I am not directing that to you, 62896dude. I am assuming your first game is not live with a large community if you are moving on to another game.

I support the notion of simply completing a project and moving on.
For a start, it avoids the issue of starting countless new projects but then abandoning them, because the author is looking for the one special mmorpg he'll be married to for the rest of his life and he keeps abandoning projects because they don't measure up to that rediculously huge standard.
That said, tell us if you get any cease and desist letters for using the pokemon name and how many players you get in the first month, etc. I'm curious about it's draw (seems a real grabber...of course your riding on the coat tails of nintendo's advertising, for free, which makes it alot easier)

Re: New MMORPG Idea?
I can understand that, but at the same time, it seems at least to me that continued maintenance, content updates, bug fixes, and community management are all parts of the online game development process. In my opinion, moving on after a game is up and picking up momentum basically is abandoning a game only partially finished. But then I can't even understand the mentality of moving on to make another online game after one is completed and gone live. Interacting with, and listening to the desired game direction of players enthralled in your creation always seemed to me to be the pay-off of the entire process.

Re: New MMORPG Idea?
Thanks for all the constructive feedback everyone, it is much appreciated! To clear some things up, the harry potter mmorpg i just finished is not live, and i dont think i ever intend on it being live, it was really to put my skills to the test and see what i could put together in a short amount of time, and i was pretty proud of the result! But i am moving on to bigger and better things and leaving the harry potter game behind (perhaps i will post it on this site if people wanna tweak the code and do whatever with it). But anyways, I am already putting together a team (both here on IR and some friends) to make this dream game possible. If any of you wanted to help, that'd be amazing, but im sure you are all very busy managing this fantastic site! (without which i would never have even thought it possible that i myself could actually make a game!)
Thanks again!

Re: New MMORPG Idea?
Ahh, it was as I thought then, that the first game was not destined to be released to the mainstream public. Best of luck with it

What about Nintendo's vicious protection of their intellectual property?
Re: New MMORPG Idea?
I have actually considered that... Perhaps i could make it extremely similar, but change a few things to avoud copyright issues? But on the other hand, there are countless pokemon games out there that nintendo does nothing about
