Re: The Last Airbender
You have to admit the comic/game/anime-to-movies are getting better for the most part if you look at them through the ages. Out of the widely-considered four worst movie adaptions ever, Super Mario Brothers, Double Dragon and Street Fighter were all from the 90's. That leaves the other worst ever, House of the Dead, from the early 2000's. While I haven't seen anywhere near all of them, looking back in time it doesn't seem that adaption movies as successful and well-received by their fans as Iron Man, The Dark Knight, Spider Man, etc. would have been possible 10 - 20 years ago. I think the change has largely been due to the involvement by the source material creators. Back in the day they used to just let a movie producer go nuts with the adaption (and still sometimes do, case in point being the Dragon Ball movie), but now the smart IP-holders are getting very involved.

Speaking of Spiderman, anyone know about this reboot of the series that's supposed to be coming out in 2012? New director, new lead, no more Mary Jane (which to me is awesome, because Peter's first girl in the comics was Gwen Stacy not Mary Jane), and the Vulture (or the Lizard, not 100% on that) as the main villain. The new direction and the fact that they decided to restart the whole series is awesome to me. I hope they revisit Venom, and that they do things a little more in line with the comics.

Re: The Last Airbender
I heard some rumors about it, but honestly can't remember. I have actually never seen a Spider-Man movie (I actually don't like any super heroes or comic books lol).
As an extension to what I mentioned a moment ago, I could be pretty sure in saying that Marvel's creation of a movie production outfit earlier last decade was surely in response to all of the terrible adaption movies that had plagued fans since the 70's. While I know it wasn't Marvel, I think Batman and Robin scared the crap out of every comic IP holder at the idea of blindly giving movie rights to a studio.

I never saw it either, but I heard it was an abomination with nothing more than slight nods to the original, and even then usually just in character's names.
