Content Packs

Post by Last Known Hero »

Hey guys,

In preparation for my website, I would like to know what kind of 3D content packs are the most useful to you. If you could, list a few so I can find what would be the general consensus.
Such as:
1. Characters
2. Modern Guns
3. Medieval Buildings
4. Smiley Faces
5. Batman Models

I would like to get some things made for the day of release :)

What I find that I am using the most:

1. Scenery (Park benches, fire hydrants, street lights, etc)
1a. Scenery (Trees, bushes, etc)
2. City buildings (futuristic)
3. Houses (futuristic)

While I don't make any 3D games, I have to comment that what Spirit said seems to echo what I have heard over the years. Characters are usually just too personalized for a 3D game project. Sometimes indie devs may buy a low amount of naked, generic rigged characters from which to start their own work, but the toughest part of creating a 3D game is the sheer amount of environmental content needed to create a complete world. I believe that is where a lot of indie teams have to turn to model packs.

Maybe it would be good to target specific settings for your model packs? Say a bunch of models for a medieval town, then in another a bunch for a modern suburb. Just an idea.
Skillset: C/C++, OpenGL, C#, Lua, PHP, MySql, Web Dev etc.

Yes that's what I will be doing, they won't be single models or anything like that. Generally a Content Pack is a bunch of a specific theme. Such as 'Toon Buildings Pack 1' or 'Medieval Weaponry 1'
