My small draft of a small game world: Driftwurld

Have a project in the works but not much media? How about an idea you are turning into a project? Maybe a game design document you want to start with. This is the place.

That raises a good question of what sort of fight is it that'd go down?

Perhaps have a series of locations you click on to hit a creature there, like hit it's guts, or tentacles, or face and knock out that part. Hit them in the right order and do extra damage.

Sounds interesting, havent seen that before in a browser game.

How would it be done? as in the "right order" would it be randomized? or would there be a set sequence for certain types of creatures?

I'm thinking it'd be set, so basically you can learn the monster. And as a twist, say 10% of the time it's a variant of the monster, with a slightly different description which uses another set combination. Just to keep people on their toes

Well, the main sequence game and combat exchange is coded in. But I still have to draw up graphics for the monsters, then implement this into the map, then finish up some harvesting code on that map, then expand the map to some non test size and fill in the terrain...so it'll be awhile.

I'm thinking of making a quick game in between, since the map will take awhile to release, where you fight other players for cash and weapons. I was going to have this system where they have a sort of loot bag of cash, whenever you win some of the cash you win goes into your normal money bag and some goes into your loot bag. If your loot bag gets to 100, you get it all! But if someone else beats you, they take what's in your loot bag! (As noted, some (prolly half) of your cash winnings go into your normal bag, which can't be lost). There'd be an associated skill with it, which you would increase on a win. Also I was thinking of having a primary/secondary weapon system where if you beat them, you might get to take their secondary weapon as a spoil of war (can never take the primary, and the secondary isn't as important as the primary).

That cage match coding has gone well. Though I have it that you can't earn money in it until you have some money to put in your cage match stake (what you can lose if you lose a match). I want people to rise through the other mini games up to doing some raptor hunting, before they can cage fight. If you have no money in your stake, you can fight up to four times a day. If by chance you do beat someone who does have money in your stake, you keep it! And if you win your skill goes up. So you can sneak in there.

I'm going to test it a bit more, then make it go live!

But I was mainly making this post because I'm trying to figure out if you can place tables absolutely in HTML (the table itself, not just it's contents), or if you have to just go with the flow and use a bunch of <br> and such?

Been working on a sort of graphical map wandering section. In fact on top of that I got it to draw up a few other players from the database and drop an icon for them on the map! It's kind of cool to see them and I'm going to code in that they automatically pass on skill bonuses (if their skill is higher than the player). If you mouse over them they show their name and theirs a graphic for when your both standing in the same square. It's not real player interaction, but it's neat to represent other players this way.

It's all html, page refreshing stuff.

No comments about my nice trees? Hand drew 'em myself - came out pretty well. Just grabbed a picture of grass for the background though, I'll admit.
