Name: Lands of Adventure
Style: MMO
Engine: Realm Crafter Professional 2.50 (Soon to be released)
Team: Me.
Size: One fairly large island. So a fairly small, realistically achievable goal.
Time: My spare time.
Simple storyline: People are arriving in the lands, no memory of how they got there or who they are. The pleasant people of the lands are trying their best to cope with the arrivals but the people have their own problems, the lands are dangerous. The lands are at war. An evil mage from the southern lands with his legions of undead is trying to conquer the lands. The only resistance is the armys of a dying king, and the adventurers that have arrived in the lands of adventure.
Unique Point: Heavily story and quest driven, much less grind, although there will be battle areas.
This post is mostly a holding post that will be here for updates.

To gain a power that the king possesses, so he can rule the world for ever more.
Still working on it, hehe, unsure of what the power or object or maybe knowledge will be yet. Ideas welcome. Since quite blatantly my ideas aren't fully formed, but i really want to give my world design a real feeling of story, since i have played many mmo's that kinder say, "There was this big war ages ago, and bad stuff happened. Sooo wanna go grind on some local wildlife???"... Which is unrewarding and often boring.

One way to work up an idea is to start with no conflict at all and just imagine over centuries various peoples building in population on the game world. But that in itself isn't even a reason for conflict. But rising populations usually mean dwindling resources and as fallout says, war never changes. Also, violent religion that demands X be worshipped, might come into play.
Letting conflict naturally boil into existance rather than forcing it to exist, gives it more history and actual roots.
Guys who are just evil just because? No one thinks they are evil/the bad guys - the most interesting battles are between two sides who both think they are the good guys.

Very well put! I was never able to pinpoint why I liked the story to FFXII so much compared to other Final Fantasies. Instead of having some random over-powered guy decide he wants to take over the world, the world of FFXII was much more fleshed-out and the main story arc involved conflict through geopolitics.Callan S. wrote:One way to work up an idea is to start with no conflict at all and just imagine over centuries various peoples building in population on the game world. Ok so i have been getting the hang of RCpro...
Just a quick screen to show that i am actively moving forward and trying to learn the engine and build a cool game.

Models and textures, totally stolen from Realmcrafter Standard lol, changing that soon
