Looking for an engine (again)

Post by OldRod »

Been out of game development for a while, busy at work, writing a book, playing Istaria, etc. I'm getting the itch to code again, so I started tinkering with my browser game I had been working on, but I am looking to go beyond text-only now.

So, I'm looking for an open source engine for a browser-based isometric view rpg/mmo. I have been working up to now mostly with PHP/MySQL. I want to expand my horizons, but I've been out of the browser-based arena for several months, so I didn't know if there was a new kid on the block that anyone could recommend? Or is there a good engine that I can dissect and learn from as I work on my own?

I'm looking to do a multiplayer online browser-based rpg, supported in the backend by a MySQL/PHP system, with some AJAX worked in. Is there a version of Forsaken Sanctum that would work for this? Or Crocania (was it ever released)? Or some other open source engine that someone could recommend?

Thanks :)

i may be able to work with you on Quests of Crocania. It is pretty much complete i just need some one to help take it over and add to it. I would like to still have a hand in it and help. It just has become too much for me alone.

try this version out
http://indie-resource.com/QOC/login.php

this is 1.1, i have already completed 1.2 which has more features and a slicker look

2.0 is the unity version which adds 3d to it

some of the features

Player owned Houses
Player Owned shops
Guilds
Spells
Psionics
Town System
Rings and Amulets
Weapons and armor with a strength and weakness system
Message system
Chat system
Exploration system
Living growing world
Quest system

If I had someone equally interested in it that would help and push me along I think this could be a fantastic game. It would be a 50/50 ownership.

If you are interested PM me, if not interested not a problem I understand.

I thought there was a version of Crocania that had a clickable map... or am I thinking of another game?

different game, though I have a brand new map system that is real time that works like a charm so far, check out community project forums for more info. I could also give you Forsaken sanctum 2.0

Sorry, don't mean to post in an old topic but, I didn't know if you had found an engine you were looking for yet or not but, I would highly reccomend trying Unity3D. You make more or less, ANY TYPE of game you want with it with many different camera angles including isometric. If I were you I'd give it a shot if you haven't already.
