Started to get really annoyed with my game now!!
bloody database work is kickin my ass to a major point -.-
i thought i knew what i wanted to do regarding my crafting... but its just to hit n miss regarding whether something works... and quite frankly after abit of thinking its gunna piss people off... haing 140 odd materials to play with and christ knows how many combinaions to be tried,... so much will go to waste and get up peoples asses...
so resorting to plan B which seems abit more logical in doing things... providing you put in logical compatable ingredients... you will always have a chance of crafting something..
but whats bugging me now is how to calculate stats... because clearly depending on the item your crafting will depends on the accumilated stats..
if your making a weapon... you know it has to have more stats than a ring or bracelet would have....
tis jus all GRRR!!!

How about making each thing you craft require a certain amount of "progress points" to finish, then you make the stats modify the time it takes to make it (and possibly the quality of the item too)?
A ring would require, say 500 progress points to finish. The value would need balancing, but once balanced it should be the same for every ring of the same type.
If a player has a high skill level, he'll finish it faster: skill is 73. 500/73 = 6.8 hours of work to actually finish the ring. If you want, you could add a small chance that the player didn't make any progress, and thus the time spent doesn't count towards finishing the ring.

its more of the calculating the pass/fail chance and then the final stats the item comes with once it is done. but i think after hours of head scratching i have come up with a decent solution for it lol.

Hehe, yeah read your post again now and I see I didn't quite address what you struggled with. I don't have any good suggestions on how to put together the stats...
