Tutorial Contest

Post by hallsofvallhalla »

I wanted to wait until I got confirmation on the judges and I finally did. Got some good ones too :)

Rules:
1. Tutorials can be on anything Game Development related. Examples: Tutorials on Blender, C++, How to upload a game to a website, How to mod Half-Life, ect....
2. Tutorials can be written or Video tutorials. Neither one is more valuable than the other.
3. Tutorials MUST be for beginners. They will be judged as a beginner reading them.
4. Written Tutorials cannot be more than 30 pages with pics. Videos cannot be longer than 1 hour. We are going for quick and easy so length will not get you any extra points.
5. All entries must have been created after January 20th
6. Entrants must be 18 or older (or have parental permission to participate), and must legally be able to participate in the contest.

Judges
We have 2 Guest of Honor Judges

Judging Criteria
10 points Technicality - How well the subject of the tutorial was made easy for the beginner
15 points Clarity - How easy the tutorial was to understand
10 points Quality - The overall looks and professionalism of the tutorial

Maybe second place could be a forum title.

Well, if you're going to give models as the prize... I suggest Bar Rafaeli! That would make the contest popular :)

I can throw in some additional prizes as well.

Possibly you don't know me, but I'm the primary developer for the Zen Engine game engine framework at IndieZen.org, and I'm also the CTO of IndieZen LLC which is the company behind the Indie Game Engine.

We have two versions of the Indie Game Engine that will be for sale in the near future, but following that we'll have the "elite" version available, which is the multi-user collaborative game development environment. Hero Engine is the closest to the elite version's capabilities and Hero Engine sells for $100k - $1.5m per title.

The Elite Indie Game Engine will likely be priced at $30k when it is complete.

My first place prize is a license of the Elite Indie Game Engine.
My second place prize and third place prize I can offer a Pro Indie Game Engine license.
The 4th place through 10th place will receive a Hobbyist license of the Indie Game Engine.

Thanks Halls for hosting this awesome contest!

Edit: Adjusted prizes a bit so we can host another one of these in the near future.
Edit2: After discussing with Halls, we've decided that it'll be best to save the cash prizes for the game creation contest.
