Doom

Post by ZeroComp »

Does anyone still play the old first version? I do sometimes. It's one of the best fps's that was made a while ago.

Try Heretic. It was a pretty neat FPS that used a fantasy setting with spells and such. The level design is very close to Doom.

I absolutely love Heretic!

In fact, I was working on a 3D version of Heretic using the Torque engine for a while... just for something to do. But I got off on something else :)

There is a Heretic II as well. It was actually true 3D instead of faux 3D like Doom, however. I never actually played part 2, though.

Heretic2 was ok... it varied a lot from the original, but it was still a fun game to play. I used to spend hours doing one-on-one bladefights on DM servers. That was fun. Still not as fun as the original Heretic though :)

To me, the art style seemed to suffer in Heretic II as well. It changed to full 3D, but 3D was still fairly new, so it ended up looking about like Quake (somewhere around sloppy Nintendo 64 level). At the time, the new technology was mind blowing, but now it just looks awful. The stylish psuedo-3D hand-drawn sprite look in both Doom and Heretic 1 looks much better in comparison.

Yes I absolutely hated Nintendo 64 graphics, however I did find a liking to the Zelda game graphics. Those were some actual good ones, but everything else..... meh its ok or it sucks
