Have you ever played Mount and Blade?Jackolantern wrote:To me, the manual-targeting to use regular attacks side would just get too boring too fast.
It's regular attacking is awesome, you controlled the direction of your swipe, you could stab, and do over head hits.
And they had hundreds of weapons as well as the ability to mount a horse.
Same went for blocking, or you could have it on auto block, and then it was just a timing block rather then directional.
They have guns and crossbows for the people who want to play ranged.
Mount and Blade doesn't have any spells I don't think.
Though I'm sure you can download mods that add spells to the game.
But it's quite an awesome game, they did melee combat quite well.
Really I don't find skills to offer much challenge, omg I've got this guy targeted 1,2,5,2,1,5,8! huzah I beat him.
Sure the combination of skills and progression of the skill tree adds the challenge.
But there's hardly ever any movement that effects the outcome since usually its an auto hit.
(However Aion is the first MMO that has auto attacking but they added movement bonuses to your defense and attack so moving becomes part of the game.)
Moving towards the person when you goto hit them did more damage.
Pulling away from a hit caused you to be open and more likely for a critical.
I prefer twitch skills to my games meaning everyone is equal and the game truly takes skill.
As supposed to stat whore games where you have the higher number of attack so you win.

Re: What do you look for?
Having spells and skills does not equal a stat whore game. They aren't even linked. Look at Guild Wars. The game is mostly centered around trying to go into battle with the perfect set of skills and spells, not about your gear, because there is not a huge disparity in gear bonuses between regular and rare gear. And in PvP, it hardly matters at all. Against other players, it is about being prepared with the correct skills and using them effectively, which is deceptively very, very complex.

I usually look for something with good game play, something that will keep me interested in playing, and with that the graphics don't really matter. I also look for sci-fi related type games. 90% of the games I buy are sci-fi, the others are usually mystery.

I am the exact opposite. A sci-fi game has to come with extremely high marks for me to even try it, as I do not like sci-fi in any medium. I will check out the latest Final Fantasies, even though they have morphed into a sci-fi/fantasy hybrid, but only because they are typically the cream of the crop for console RPGs.SpiritWebb wrote:I usually look for something with good game play, something that will keep me interested in playing, and with that the graphics don't really matter. Believe it or not after I said how much I dislike sci-fi, I actually like Star Trek: The Next Generation. I probably would not like it if my mother had not been so into it (she loves sci-fi) and I had not watched it quite often when I was younger. Now I still enjoy it because of the excellent writing. I'm not a fan of any of the other Star Trek series, though. The original was just about finding new species of alien life, and then kicking the crap out of it.SpiritWebb wrote:One of my fav's is Star Trek Legacy, but then again, Im a Star Trek fan.
