Okay its official, I am building a Graphical Mud engine! I got the email this morning that I would be backed. Very excited.
A couple things to note. When I say Mud please don't think 80's all text Mud. I am building the next generation Mud. Very graphical with some very unique features but keeping what we all love about Muds.

Web Based Front End(Javascript,HTML5)
.Net backend(do not let that scare you, i am using mono for any OS compatibility)
SignalR(for sockets)
MySQL mixed with a custom flat file database I have been building

Millions of locations capable with very small overhead
Interactive Locations
Each location has options for harvesting(lumber, mine, hunt, fish, ect..) every location can be owned by players and buildings can be built on them.
Player Owned Buildings
Houses, Stores, Farms, and much more.
Interactive Towns
Mayor system, shops, jobs, and much more. Towns grow as players inhabit them.
Battle System
Unique Battle system and Psionic system that allows player to mix and match abilities.
Vehicles
For fast travel and hauling goods.
Crafting System
Anything can be crafted and a unique custom crating for building new items. Players can build their own special items.
Guild System
Guild Houses, Guild Treasures, ect..
Living World
Day/Night and Weather system with temperature factors. In other words you cannot go hiking through snowy mountains in shorts and a t-shirt. The wolrd will dynamically grow and die. Plants will increase and decrease with time and the seasons.
Event System
Zone and location events that affect everyone. Wars and Harvesting events.
Classless System
Skills are gained and raised by how much you use them and main skills are chosen by the player.
Social
Real Time chat and friends system.
Pets
Breed and raise pets and companions.
Auctions
Auction system and trading.
