Free web cam recording software?
Free web cam recording software?
You guys would know of some good, free recording software and a safe place to download it from! I have a laptop and it has a built in camera, but no recording software. Also do you know of a good or okay movie editor - I just need to be able to take samples from clips and stick them together, for a kickstarter video or for youtube posts.
I don't know much about that stuff, so hope the question doesn't sound too basic! Thanks for any help you can give

I've used http://www.bandicam.com/ before.... I think maybe 10 minutes free recording on the unregistered version? I haven't used it in awhile, so you can look at it anyway. They may have changed things too, so might be different.

Check out Camstudio, a free, open source version of Camtasia. For editing, I am not sure if there is a clear open source front-runner, but here is a list of some of the free stuff.
Just be careful when dealing with "free software" vs. open source software. Free, proprietary software often makes its living by adding sneaky options into the installer to give you bloat- and malware.

Thanks! But camstudio seems to be for screen captures? I want to use it for web cam recording.
I tried downloading a web cam recorder but for some reason it wouldn't record audio (the laptop has a mic, the sound recorder program proved that)
And geez, they do try and sneak in a bunch of stuff under the accept button!

They most certainly do
I have even come across a few of them that I had to cancel out of because the unwanted installs weren't optional

Re: Free web cam recording software?
So any suggestions for a webcam recorder? Just thought you guys would know a safe one and one that'll record video and sound from the mic?

Hah, I just got an idea here...
How about well.. OBS ( Open Broadcaster Software ) - https://obsproject.com/
Yes, It's made for streamers but hell, instead of streaming you can 'stream' your stuff directly down to a .flv file with the quality preferences you are set to 'stream' with.
It's clean and working,
I would test this right away but I don't own a webcam. But according to some tutorials in web, you are able to just add a video source to the scene, which then is Webcam.
