Gangnam Style forces YouTube to change to 64-bit ints

It finally happened. Psy's K-pop song "Gangnam Style" just broke YouTube's view counter. YouTube had to acknowledge that a 32-bit integer wasn't enough, and to mark the occasion, at least for right now if you hover your mouse pointer over the view count, YT set up a little effect to cause the number to start wildly overflowing.

Interesting to see a large company such as YT talking so openly to their worldwide userbase in computer science terms. I guess it really shows how the world is changing.

Well I can't see why that's suprising... What would they say? "It broke because stuff?"...

Great Accomplishment

They could have easily said "The system wasn't designed to display such a large number, but we fixed it".

My surprise is in the actual use of CS terms to the general public. I didn't know enough people even knew the difference between a 32 and 64-bit integer lol.

Oh that right :D

Well I guess it will happen to us making mysql browser game databases when using ID with INT size (11 digits) and ending up having a huge game full of users :D

Imagine how the internet will be in 2050... It will be so huge, and I bet darknet will blend in or the surface-net blend out.

The most insane thing here is how something so stupid could get so many hits. Oh the world has gone off the deep end.

My daughter watches cat videos. I do not. I am an adult that does adult things like kick cats. Not watch them fall off of a table.

This is intended as a joke. I do not kick cats......I just punch them

Ohhhhh :D How can you punch such cute animal? I get it if you want to punch a freaking mosquito because those assholes don't deserve to live... but a cat ?... It's like a punching a more-asshole version of a dog :)

Off topic but I always wondered how it is legal to catch a fish by a sharp hook and drag it around yet you cannot do it to a dog or cat. Who says it is different? Who makes that decision?

I guess it's a matter of society morals. In China you eat dog and cat normally and in western society that's not accepted...
