WorldForge - http://www.worldforge.org/
While looking for the source of Multiverse MMO, I saw another open source MMO that provides clients, servers etc.
"Worldforge provides clients, servers, tools and protocol to allow for anyone to create and host their own virtual and online world."
At their homepage you can find info were they stated "And everything we do is 100% Free Software".
http://sourceforge.net/projects/worldforge/files/
Sadly, I investigated their discussion forums and it seems it has been inactive over a year(2013 seems like a bad year for developers).

"Feel free to log in and play around doing anything you like, don't worry you it's a sandbox! Bring and friend and see what its like to build a world collaboratively!"
GitHub https://github.com/worldforge

I'm not the best at providing information, but I hope someone find this useful. I believe they used C++ and a couple libraries.
