Dedicated/Virtual servers?

Dedicated/Virtual servers?
Anyone have any recommendations for the best for the price? I basically have a feeling if FS gets 1000+ players(wishful thinking) I will need to move it to a virtual server. Actually I am thinking I may want to do this after a few hundred players.

Good question, will need a server too later. WIll be running it on my own 24mbit connection and now that I got my new E8400 CPU, I will put the "old" AMD AThlon X2 3800+ in my server instead...along with a 7800GTX...(overkill for a server? )

how much simultaneous connections can a server usually hold per 256 mb ram for a multi 3d game?

All depends on how much of the stuff you place server side. Like most games don't send position updates to the server 60times/second, instead they guess the other players positions and check position just a few times/second. Also as if in my game it saves all stats to a database that will require more power and so on. So there is no such measurement as you ask for

well i guess i should have known that was a stupid question It's just that, i like to plan before i start making a game, including server requirements, but i guess this can only come at a late stage of the development
