[3DS Max] Modelling and Texturing a Building and Interior

Hey guys, this was always my last frontier for 3d modelling!

Before finding this tutorials, I thought that to model interiors people used 4 walls and connected them to make a room :shock: :lol:

I found these two tutorials made by Devin Olsen, which he takes full credit, I'm just sharing.

All reasons why I hate Max: clumsy, annoying, and not efficient. Sorry really one of the worse 3D soft out there. Why is it so used? Because people used it long long time ago, and used of course pirated versions. However nothing in that soft make me love it ;)

I hate it too alain, but is one of the most used so since I'm a newb and i require tutorials i must use this one. I don't use pirated though, i use student version :D
But I know what you are saying, How many times it f*cked up my work? Countless times... I would use blender but I don't know how and I'm more used to max now :(
It's similar to the reason I use Unity instead of the UDK.. I'm "too deep" into Unity to go learn something far different in UDK... It's a shame really, but lots of indie studios use Unity (more than UDK since UDK is a beaaaast engine, Unity is much more user friendly)...

What soft do you use to 3D model alain? ;)

Ahahaha I know right? :P Apparently there are better ways of doing it :P The method used in this video is a negative extrude (extrude inside instead of outside) and then creates a "open" area inside the mesh. If you simply try to carve a whole in one side of a mesh (at least in 3dsmax) and then try to view it's inside, it's invisible / non-existent.

I tried modeling about 10 or 11 years ago back when pretty much all hobbyist developers used MilkShape. I know that is an ancient application by today's standards, but I realized pretty fast I wanted nothing to do with modeling myself :P

But I have a ton of respect for those that do it :cool:

You can ask alain for my modelling skills :P I ended up doing the models for my game Global City Defender, and I still don't know how he did, they look amazing.
I used milkshape once, didn't enjoy because comparing to the newest software i guess it's not that powerful.

I don't think modelling is my role too, but i need them, and i can't afford paying anyone to do it.

I used Modo for the modeling, and really I love that software. Before that I was using Lightwave and before I was using Truespace.

Changing from one 3D soft to another is like programming. Once you know a language it doesn't take as long as the first time you had to learn programming. Sure switching is not cost free in terms of time and efforts still, you may actually gain from it. Max is really badly organized, doesn't offer good tools out of the box and is basically a milking cow from autodesk.

I think you can see how much i know from 3D modelling by not knowing those 3 softs you mentioned :P
Yeah when i think of changing i think on how much time i would need to learn the new stuff.. and kinda kills the buzz. :roll:
