Just seen it. Here is a quick review

Disney fight scenes with a total raping of the book.

Enough said.

As a movie, it wasn't horrible... the barrel scene was a bit long, and the Smaug fight was waaaaaaaaaaaay too long, but in general it was a decent movie... taken as a movie.

But you're right, taken as an adaptation of the book, ummm.... no :) I feel Tolkien spinning in his grave.

even as a movie I did not like it. The fight scenes were so corny and the acting was quite bad compared to the other movies.

Equilibrium, Stake Land, 13th Warrior, 1st Matrix, Many Asian and korean martial arts films, to name a few. But yes I am a hardcore film critic.

You cannot compare Harry Potter to The Hobbit though. The Hobbit is a engrained tale that has been around for 70 years. I agree it needed to be spiced up but to me he took too many liberties. Did you know Jackson could not use the Similarian because Tolkiens son hated the Lord of the Rings so much that he would not let them touch anything they did not already own?

Yes a few extra liberties would be fine but there was more than just a few. I have a hard time saying something like "if there was no book they would be good", there was a book and they attempted to adapt to it and failed. Yes it could have been worse, I get that but them adding in all that extra crap really kills what we have read for so many years.

So if they took Harry Potter and made the movie about a dwarf who wants to be a wizard and he goes to a school with dogs and cats yet it is a good movie could we not say it was a good movie had there not been a book? Some of the worse movies to come out, transformers, could we say they would have been good had there not been the toys? No they still were horrible. Micheal Bay is one of the worst directors of our time, second to M night Shalamalong ding dong. Okay now I am ranting and rolling on about nothing :P

I will shut up now...

I thought a lot of the added content came from the Similarion?
