Samsung Note 3

Post by hallsofvallhalla »

Just got mine. Had a Note 2 before it. I like it so far. Very impressed. Was disapointed that the screen was only slightly bigger but it is much lighter and thinner. Has some real kewl features. My biggest aggravation is the headphones. Why would you package complete garbage headphones with a $700 phone?

I am buying the watch next.

Don't you find the size annoying? I am not sure I could carry that thing around in my pocket all the time like I do my Galaxy S3 :)

That is my thought, too lol. I mean, how could they have made the screen bigger? It would be a 7" tablet if they did

Are the Notes not annoying to carry around? That is what always steered me away from the Note 2 towards the SIII (my current phone).

Not at all. Unless you wear tights around they fit in any pocket. And once you go to the screen size its hard to go back. I look at the iphone and laugh. Hey Iphone5, the 90's called and want their 3" screen back!

I want the Note 3 so bad. Next year is when I'll have my upgrade, so hopefully it'll be cheap enough then

Yeah, any iPhone before 5 just has a laughable screen size, and even the 5S still looks small compared to mine. I couldn't use it. And I just have the Galaxy S3, nevermind the Notes lol

Yeah, "Retina Display" was amazing for a few months after the iPhone 4 launch when no one else had it, but everyone and their grandmother has caught up, and in many cases surpassed it. I was floored when I saw that the iPad Mini was coming out with about 75% the ppi of the Nexus 7, which was an earlier released product. Craziness...

Somehow Samsung build scares me... Their stuff is not cheap but their plastic build somehow doesn't convince me. Also the size is really above what I would consider ok for me. My hands wouldn't want to handle it. Finally the touch-wizz (or how you write it) is a bit on the gadget side. Yet I love the pen idea and the multi tasking enhancements. For the watch... I really find it ugly.

Me is on the sony side of the life with Z1 and soon with smartwatch 2 ;)

I am not convinced at all about the Galaxy Gear watch. When I hear the words "smart watch", I was just envisioning so much more than a glorified Bluetooth gadget to sit on your wrist. I am not expecting a built-in phone, but I was thinking along the lines of its own Google Play interface, apps built for it, maybe a couple of interesting sensors for devs to play with, etc. And maybe it does have that, but Samsung played it all wrong (in my opinion) hyping its hands-free calling and text notification features. I have somewhere around 0 need for that.

As kind of a funny side-note to anyone who didn't hear, Samsung rushed the Galaxy Gear out in response to intelligence stating that Apple was readying a smart watch to release by Christmas. But it was all BS. About a month before the Galaxy Gear was to be released, fairly confident sources state that Apple has no such watch plans in the making, and has only vaguely tinkered with the idea.

Don't get me wrong, though, I think it is an important step. Ten, fifteen years down the line, we will all have powerful computers on our wrists. But I don't think this one is going to be the killer watch.
