You need a Server, you can run it off your home PC with some programs, though it'll likely be laggy but play-able. I do a mmo on my pc. Had 5 players at once, 16 in total :)
You could buy a server and depending on your client there is different ways to set it up.

i have uploaded! it is easy... just fix the connect.php... put your admin, database etc...

example

<?php

$db = mysql_connect("PUT YOUR MYSQL SERVER","your name of the mysql","password") or die("Could not connect to db");
if(!$db)
die("no db");
if(!mysql_select_db("tutorial",$db))
die("No Database Selected");

?>

yes if someone could compile a list of free hosts that allow games that would be great, I can sticky the thread or put it on the main page.

Someone threw that link at me a long time ago..its not the best but it will cover your basic needs for free. (Php, mysql, cron jobs, etc.)

http://000webhost.com is who my team uses. We are using the FREE side of it right now...but...will be switching over when we get our project completed, to the paid hosting service they have.

They will host a broswer-based game as long as you open a ticket and make sure they will host what you need, so it gives them a heads up. There is no hidden fees with them, so if you run one, and start going over the normal usage of bandwidth, there is NO additional charges.

Just open a ticket with your questions with them, and when its been answered, save the conversation. :)

altho using their free service for test purpouses i would recomend... using them as a full host i wouldnt. i have asked many questions towards them, (and might i add after having to create about 10-11 chat lines with them, and waiting 15 minutes to get a response out of them) it kinda put me off...

secondly, their '4.84' a month, is not all it seems to be. for a start you are not hosting with them, 000webhost is just an cover name, the real hosts are host24.com, and it is not only untill you read the small print, that the 4.84 price is for their lowest package, ONLY WHEN you sign up to the 36 month contract.

i also enquired about cronjob usage, and they said they are fine with it unless you go over something like 1% cpu usage (cant remember the exact % but its not alot) but they said they will shut your service down untill you have sorted the problem out.

so overall i personally think they are awsome for test and free services.... but as for paid and pre customer support.... i wouldnt rate them to good.

i am personally going to go for inmotionhosting.com their payed services are great. they do not have many issues about cron job usage, but tell you to be warned and you will be notified if you go over the cpu limit to which you will have x amount of time to solve the issue then they will block the website untill you have contacted them regarding a fix.

their basic bussiness package (unlim badwidth and storage options) is cheaper than that of hosting24. their pre customer support is fantastic. have spoken to them twice, and they question you about what exactly you are needing and what kind of website you are running. they also ask you to contact them directly if you have any other queries or when you want to set up hosting. which can be done via phone OR email. and they will also call you if you do not live in the US :D

anyway. http://blog.jimmyr.com/List_of_Webhosti ... 7_2008.php

free site hosts on there.

I am looking over the inmotionhosting.com site that Torniquet talked about, and this was the convo: (I'm Tad, the person I'm speaking too is Matt)

Tad: Do you or can you support running an online, browser-based MMO?

You are now speaking with Matt B. of Sales.

Matt B.: Hello Tad.
Matt B.: Is this a flash based game?
Tad: hello
Tad: Based with Unity player
Tad: and a MySql Database
Matt B.: What is the largest amount of people that have been online with the game at the same time?
Tad: We are still in development at this time...I am just trying to find a good host
Tad: right now we are with the free hosting service with 000webhost.com
Matt B.: Okay, if you were to go with us you would need a Dedicated server.
Tad: Right
Matt B.: While we do not specialize in MMO games, we might be able to host what you are looking for especially if you are new.
Tad: What we are doing is a space based MMO, to get an idea would be Eve/Taikodom. But would be entirely embeded
Matt B.: Okay and how much disk space would you need and how much bandwidth?
Tad: Disk space = I would say no more then (estimating) 5Gb. Bandwidth, thats a good question...
Matt B.: If that is all of the disk space you would need for the entire game and users then the Lowest Dedicated would be fine, you might actually be able to start on the Highest VPS to start and upgrade later, that way you save a little money.
Tad: I guess the next question would be, is how much would the hosting cost for this type of setup?
Matt B.: The VPS would be 169.95/month if you wanted no contract.
Tad: And if I wanted a contract?
Matt B.: If you were willing to do a 6 month or a 12 month the price would be paid upfront but you would save for the 6 month $10 off per month and the 12 month $20/month.
Matt B.: Let me get you the exact total.
Matt B.: Price: 169.95/month with no contract; 159.95/month for semi annual billing upfront cost of 959.70; 149.95/month for annual billing upfront charge of 1799.40. This will have a 30-day full money back guarantee on the monthly and a 90-day full money back guarantee on the semi annual billing options and yearly billing option.
Tad: And I would sign up under the VPS, correct?
Matt B.: Exactly.
Matt B.: Now once you go live and attract a lot of traffic and players then you can easily upgrade to a Dedicated server.
Tad: Alright...I won't be at this time, as we are still in construction mode...what would be the cost of upgrading to a dedicated server?
Matt B.: It would just be the prorated difference from the one you would choose to go to.
Tad: Alright. This is something that we will consider. You have been more then helpful then our current webhost, and that I thank you for.
Matt B.: My pleasure, let me give you my contact information so that if you have any other questions or when you are ready to get started, you can contact me directly.
Tad: Alright.
Matt B.: My email address is mattb@inmotionhosting.com and my phone number is 888-321-4678 press 9 to enter my EXT which is 859. I am available Saturday 10am to 7pm EST. Tuesday - Friday 9:30am-6.30pm EST.
Tad: Where exactly are you located?
Matt B.: I'm in Virginia Beach, VA. We also have a Los Angeles, CA office.
Tad: Much closer in VA then CA where we are located. We are designing/building the game out of Conway, Akansas...
Tad: Again thanks so much Matt. I appreciate your time.
Matt B.: It was my pleasure!

That was our conversation, copied directly from the chat window...
