Heya everyone!
So I went ahead and created an IRC channel for this forum, because I like places where people can have live discussions
I have created it on freenode as its the same place where the channels for Python, HTML5, C++, Ubuntu, PHP etc exists. So this way everyone has easy access to other development channels aswell.
The channel is ##indie-resource (The double hash is on purpose as I do not own the name, halls does)
A direct link is:
http://webchat.freenode.net?channels=%23indie-resource
If you want to join other development channels, just type
/join #channelname
e.g /join ##php
If any admin or moderator from these forums does join the channel please let me know, I shall make them administrators there aswell.
I invite everyone to join me there so that we have another way of sharing information and helping each other out.
I shall try and be there as often as I can, if I dont reply its most probably because I left it switched on, on my phone

I hope you got approval from Halls to go ahead and create an IRC channel for the community. As much as it is good to see others helping out, communication is key. I remember back in the days when I ran a game server, it always struck a nerve when someone did this, as I felt they were overstepping. Especially when I had to "discover" what someone had done before discussing it.
As for IRC, I personally don't have time to sit in an IRC chat room seeking help. I like going on to the forums and reading information. Then down the road when I need the info, I know it will be somewhere on the forums. I also like information to be searchable.
Just my opinion of course.

I havent spoken to him about it, but that is why I did not use the official channel for indie-resource, a double hash in freenode signifies an unofficial channel, it enables me to throw it out of the place in case he doesnt approve of it.

I don't personally have any issue with it, but of course it wouldn't be IR's official chat, but rather, the de facto IR chat.
Of course Halls has the final call, but I don't think he will have an issue, either. I think someone actually ran a 3rd party IR-IRC channel in the past, or at least suggested it and he had no problem with it.
To my knowledge, we never had any real problems with chat except that it was too empty. What can seem like decent community size on a forum can be hard to sustain chat. It is also nice that technical questions asked become part of an ongoing archive of issues and solutions *EDIT: ..when asked on the forum. Solutions and ideas are simply lost when said in chat.

Sorry must have missed this thread. Going further if I am not around or miss something Jack has final call. I have no issue with this either but I would one day like to put up a official IR IRC but I am still looking into one that can encapsulate more than just IRC

What do you mean by encapsulate more than IRC? What other features are you looking into?
