I've seen a few people implement this and have dabbled in it a bit myself, but i was wondering what everyone's opinions on IRC games are. I'm talking more hardcore IRC games rather than just a Trivia bot or "Guess the number" things to pass the time.

An idea i've had for a while was a full PvP based IRC game, where the channel is essentially an arena. You could !Battle other players and gain gold and exp to level up your character and buy new gear from the shops. You could also purchase passive skills that affected what you did in the battles(They would be automated). There could even be a betting system where you could open up a fight for betting etc.

Just getting everyone's opinions on this.

Well for one I tend to not really have any time to hang out in any IRC area, and I don't have any IRC viewers that I can easily access. Unfortunately I prefer graphical games over text games.

Ah, I'm normally always in an IRC room even if i'm not home i'll just afk there. I guess the opinion is rather dependent on how much time you actually spend on IRC.

Yes, exactly. I don't have much time to be able to spend sitting on IRC, or even if I was "afk". You wanted an opinion of course. :-p
