Driving

Post by hallsofvallhalla »

So after Jack posting that zombie driving game it intrigued me. It was choppy when i played it and I did not like the controls so I began to work on my own for sh^&% and giggles.

This is only the first part. Map size and seamless.

WASD keys....the controls are TERRIBLE. I have not added box2d physics yet but will. Go ahead and drive at top speed until you reach the other end of the map.

LOL, true. Controls are terrible is an understatement.

But awesome job never the less. As always, I look forward to what you got up your sleeve.

To my mind they're wrong, w should be accelerate, s brake, a and d should be to steer.

Agree to Chris, otherwise its fun to drive left and right while the car is between diagonal / and vertical | trololo.

I'm sorry Halls, I should have clarified what I expected out of the controls. :-P But Chris is right.

k made one last update and back to real life. The controls are fixed, still working on angles and such. This is the first time in more than a week I have got to develop.

I have been thinking about how to place controls for a racing game on a keyboard, and about the best I can come up with is to have the left/right keys to represent the steering wheel perhaps on keys A and D, while the gas and brakes should likely be controlled by the other hand, possible on the Up and Down keys. If you have gear changing, maybe add those on the numpad, or for keyboards without a numpad, / and Right-Shift for gear up and down.

Great start, though! I admit the Dead Valley driving controls were not perfect, but that was kind of what made it challenging lol. I know that is kind of a cop-out, but the game basically boils down to trying to protect your car from hitting dead cars on the road and zombies haha.
