Trying to make a low poly character to use in unity,

Tell me what you think.

Not so armless...

I was trying to follow along to a guide on youtube... but for some reason went off on a tangent lol.

So far sitting at 406 vertices and 448 faces

So... when i come to export this to use in unity... will it be exported into the non smoothed version?

Blender has about 65 million ways to export and its been a while since I did anything with character models in it, but IIRC the non smooth version will be exported. In any case, what you’ll want to do is to create a normal map and export that along with the model. There are lots of tutorials on the net for making normal maps in Blender, but the basic gist is:

1 – make a high poly version of the model (use subsurf modifiers in Blender to do this)

2 – Do a UV unwrap on both versions

3 – Blender has a function for baking the normal map from the ri-res version onto the low res version as a normal map. Edit: this part has a small bit of voodoo to it and is actually pretty complex, which is why I don't remember the details; but there are excellent tutorial videos on YouTube, especially by Ira Krakow. If you invest an evening into this, you should get the hang of it.

Great work, I suggest not calling it quits with where it is at tho! Make small adjustments as you go through to improve it to your liking.
The basic hands look great, im impressed! Great work overall, now time to bring it into a digital sculpting program ;)

I'm not familiar with blenders export system but it should be as simple as clicking on export than choosing .obj as the file type or Wavefront if it doesnt tell you the extension

I can export it fine... but its getting it into blender that is causing issues... i go to tools -> import -> find my file and then it goes to pot...

i place in the model, but it dont allow me to rotate it... scale it... move it... infact absolutly naff all lol

ok... problem solved... should try edit mode... lol

but now there is a new problem... All my planes on my model are facing one way... so when i rotate my model half of it disapears... why made this crap so complicated -.-

Is there a 'Unify Normals' button anywhere?
