Apparently Microsoft gave out a bunch of Windows 8 developer tablets at a tech expo or something - they are showing up all over eBay now :)

Pretty pricey, but you could be one of the first to have one

Keep in mind it is not a "developer tablet" like they try to make it sound in the eBay ad. It is a "developer preview edition" of Windows 8. Within just a couple of months anyone will be able to download that for free and you could throw it on any compatible PC tablet.

Actually its really a developer tablet ( you can use it any way you like ) but the tablets are specially chosen and made for developers. It has an i5 core, it`s more a computer rather then a tablet, they get hot as well. It comes with a keyboard specially for developers. So yeah, it`s a "developers" tablet.

I understand that. It is a full version of Windows, not a tablet OS, technically. However, "developer tablet" makes it sound like maybe it comes pre-loaded with Visual Studio, or has some other things that are specially targeted to developers. That is not the case. In fact, there is nothing special about the tablet at all. "Developer" just refers to the fact that it is a developer preview of Windows 8. Once it gets released to the public the version on there will be dead in the water, and be unupdatable until a real version of Windows 8 is installed.

Just making it clear that "developer tablet" doesn't make it better than a regular Windows 8 tablet. In fact, it makes it worse since it is a free, beta version of Windows 8 on it. The only thing special about the tablet is that you could get a couple month jump on having the Windows 8 beta.

:o haha!

I am excited about Windows 8 nevertheless. Really, we have been using the same version of Windows since Windows 95, just with graphical updates and a few new little features. Mac is using almost the same interface and file system, and so do many versions of Linux. I think it is high time to try something completely different.

And no matter what I think about this tablet, Windows 8 tablets are freaking exciting lol. An iPad just pales in comparison to having a full, real PC as a small tablet you can carry around. Imagine having Visual Studio, Eclipse, Flash IDE, a PHP IDE and WAMP all with you on a computer the size of a book. Words just can't express...

Lol it really is a developer tablet, it`s given to developers, it has a developers preview and yes, there are tools onboard to get people started. I just read a complete overview of the specs for the tablet, it`s a tablet-sized computer and comes with keyboard.

On the rest: i`m not waiting for Win 8, i`m pretty sure i`ll stick to Win 7 for a while, i`ll make an assumption right here, right now, that Win 8 will suck. A new UI doesn`t make a new OS and im sure that if they don`t remove Metro from the desktop versions, people will go back to Win 7.

For some reason, MS just allways does it their own ( wrong ) way. I don`t know why.. Vista was a major failure ( for most anyway ), Win 7 was damn good. However, going back in time:

Windows 3.1 Good
Windows 95 ( os2 ) Bad
Windows 98 ( os2 ) Good
Windows 2k ( ns ) Bad
Windows xp ( ns ) Good
Windows Vista (ns2) Bad
Windows 7 ( ns2 ) Good
Windows 8 ( ns2 ) ... Based on previous experiences ...

Anyhow, if they were smart ( and damn they have some smart people .. ) they`d make a smaller OS for their mobile devices. Somhow, the same OS can run on high end multicore processors but also on low watt ARM cpu`s. So either their power management is frikking good OR one of 2 will have to seriously reduce their capacitiesm and by all estimates, i`ll bet the desktop is going to be the victim here ( >95% ) of their current customer base.
